JOHANNESBURG – Global consultancy firm McKinsey insists it never asked Eskom to pay Trillian directly.

In a statement, it says a letter written by a partner in February may have created the impression that it had subcontracted the Gupta-owned company.

McKinsey adds this was corrected at the time, and all Trillian payments were paid directly by Eskom.

Despite past denials, the utility’s acting board chair Zethembe Khoza admitted Trillian had been paid almost half-a-billion rand in consultancy fees.

Eskom and McKinsey have now suspended their working agreement by mutual consent.
