Sport24.co.za | Crusaders look to shed ‘nearly men’ tag
Cape Town – The Crusaders are keen to shed their tag as Super Rugby’s “nearly men” when they take on the Lions in the final in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Despite being the competition’s most successful side with seven titles under their belt, the men from Christchurch’s last tournament win came in 2008.
They have played in two finals since then – losing to the Reds in 2011 and Waratahs in 2014 – as well as four semi-finals. Head coach Scott Robertson, who played for the side as a flanker during their glory years is keen for the team to finish 2017 on a high.
“My expectations are pretty high,” he told Reuters.
“We had a lot of success when I was playing here.
“We are sick of being so close without winning it. We want to hold it up. We have got the group to do it, so Saturday night, here we come.”
