Over the last 13 years, Rhino Africa has been repeatedly recognized as “Africa’s leading luxury safari company”. To ensure exclusive access for our tour operations and to become involved in one more step of our clients’ experiences, in 2010 Rhino Africa launched a specialized property division. Starting with the award winning luxury boutique hotel, MannaBay, we have begun creating luxurious properties across the continent’s key destinations. Having conquered the Cape, Rhino Africa is proud to announce the launch of our brand new development, Silvan Safari, opening in the Sabi Sands region in November 2017.
Silvan Safari Lodge is conceptualized to redefine the notion of luxury safari, by providing guests with exclusive access to an authentic African bush experience paired with exceptional service. From waking to the resounding roar of the lion as the spectacular African sun rises over the midlands, to dipping in the crystal safari pool, champagne in hand, as the silhouetted landscape disappears with the sunset; Silvan Safari pushes the boundaries on an all-inclusive escape. Surrounded by lush vegetation on the outskirts of the Kruger National Park, Silvan Safari will boast six aesthetically pleasing modern suites each equipped with a private plunge pool. The main lodge, suspended in the indigenous treetops, provides majestic panoramic views of the Manyeleti River. The lodge will also host its very own spa, encapsulating the epitome of a luxurious safari experience.
Now, we are looking to appoint a full-time butler to assist in the daily operations at Silvan Safari Lodge. The dynamic and sophisticated Butler will primarily serve as a key point of contact for guests throughout their stay. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal communication and rapport building skills with in depth knowledge of all services and facilities offered. Providing a courteous, professional and personalized service to guests, efficiently, the well-groomed and highly intuitive Butler will always seek to exceed guests’ expectations and create a memorable and outstanding bush experience.
Specific responsibilities include, but will not be limited to
- Taking care of all guests and coordinating with all concerned departments to fulfil guests’ needs and requests until completion, ensuring total guest satisfaction
- Familiarising yourself with all food and beverage offerings, answering questions on menu selections and drinks pairing and communicating with the kitchen regarding menu questions and product availability
- Welcoming all guests on arrival on their first day and after returning from each activity and event and wishing a fond farewell to guests at the time of departure
- Serving welcome drinks and escorting the guests to their assigned rooms
- Conducting the in room check-in process in a fast and efficient manner, following all the standards, and liaising with housekeeping or maintenance for luggage delivery
- Using the point of sale software, property management software, and any other system or software, to perform the necessary duties like check-ins, check-outs, updating profiles, processing requests, applying payments, verifying & adjusting billing, recording transactions, ordering items, updating guest feedback and adding comments
- Keeping concerned departments informed about the guest allergies and food preferences
- Assisting with monitoring the stock inventory and following up on pending issues with the tracking system and store requisition forms
- Enquiring with guests to ensure satisfaction with each food course, beverages, room arrangements, facilities and location
- Informing the housekeeping department of the time desired for the daily cleaning and turn-down service
- Understanding operating procedures for all electrical and electronic equipment in the guest rooms
- Serving the guests in a calm, discrete and courteous manner, respecting timing standards and performing all required duties with the sense of priority and dedication
- Picking up trays and cleaning tables, as needed, to ensure an immaculate dining area and maintaining the cleanliness of work areas throughout the day
- Hosting all guests in a gracious and polite manner and holding conversations with the guests naturally and spontaneously
- Giving a proper handover before signing off from a shift
- Understanding and strictly adhering to the rules and regulations of Silvan Safari Lodge’s policy on fire, hygiene, health and safety
- Attending and contributing to all meetings, departmental and company training and other related activities, as scheduled

Requirements
Our ideal candidate will possess
- A qualification or a minimum of two years of working experience in hospitality, F&B, tourism or a related service industry
- Basic computer literacy – POS or PMS are an advantage
- Excellent service skills with a commitment to delivering an unforgettable guest experience
- Knowledge of various foods and beverages
- Experience with stock control procedures
- Self-motivation and self-direction with the flexibility to respond to a variety of different work situations, learn quickly and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- A deep passion for the service profession, hospitality and the bush environment
- A personal commitment to sustainability and ‘giving back’
Please note:
- Preference will be given to candidates able to start by the 1 of November 2017
- Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged South African candidates
- Silvan Safari Lodge is located in Mpumalanga and applicants will be required to relocate at their own expense
