A world leading investment and insurance firm invites an equity analyst to join its Waterfront offices. Reporting to the director/portfolio manager, you will be responsible for the analysis of JSE-listed equities as well as provide portfolio management and administrative support. The ideal candidate must be a CFA charter holder or possess a CA/B BusSci or related degree, have at least two years’ equity work experience and FAIS experience with the necessary (RE5) representative regulatory exam would be an advantageous.

Duties: 

Investment process 

• Assist with refinements of the overall equity investment process.
• Prepare research and information for monthly and quarterly equity meetings.
• Assist with day-to-day portfolio management and administration of client portfolios.
• JSE listed equity investment research and idea generation.
• Monitor portfolio mandate compliance.
• Stock broker and sell-side institutional research communication.
• Maintain and update investment universe.
• Updating and idea generation for House View portfolios.

Client experience 

• Assist in improvement of overall client experience through external research distribution and note preparation.
• Assist with client meetings and reviews.
• Assist with client quarterly reporting process.

Marketing

• Assist with proposal generation.
• Involved with the preparation of marketing material.

Portfolio review

• Assist with ongoing client portfolio reviews.
• Prepare recommendations to portfolio manager(s).

Client interaction

• Develop direct relationships with certain clients as deemed appropriate by the portfolio manager(s).

Trading and execution

• Assist with generation of portfolio implementation plans.
• Assist with design and implementation of new CRM and order management system.
• Placing and monitoring of certain trading activity.
• Ensure trading adheres to portfolio implementation plan and portfolio restrictions.

Requirements: 

Qualifications

• CFA charter holder/CA/B BusSci or related degree.

Experience/skills 

• Two to five years’ working experience in equity environment.
• FAIS experience with the necessary (RE5) representative regulatory exam would be an advantage. If not, then the candidate would have to undergo supervision to meet the fit and proper criteria.
• MS Office (Advanced Excel, Power-point, Word, Outlook).
• Working experience with Bloomberg or similar market software.
