Job description
The purpose of the job is to provide leadership and management of the relevant Schools in a manner that positions Intec as a viable, compliant and high quality private provider of education.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Be responsible and accountable for developing and advancing the academic strategy and plans of the School in line with Intec and Educor Holdings(EH) strategic plans and direction
- Be an active member of the Academic Board for Intec and contribute to the overall leadership and management of Intec
- Deputise for the Academic Manager when required
- Prepare periodic reports on School progress for EH Executive
- Develop and sustain appropriate structures for management, consultation, decision-making and communication with staff and students in the School and with other Schools in Intec.
- promote and represent the School both internally and externally
- Work collaboratively and cooperate fully with the academic department of EH
Teaching and Learning
- Ensure strict adherence to the academic policies and procedures of EH and Intec
- Research and propose new programmes in order to attract new students and markets
- Work with the Product Development Team at EH to develop new programmes
- Implement Experiential Learning in the School and develop industry partnerships to facilitate Work Integrated Learning placements
- Facilitate the regular review and enhancement or updating of existing curricula and study materials
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance in all academic activities
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies in matters affecting the School
- Implement strategies for ensuring and monitoring academic quality
- Oversee all student admissions to the School and ensure the maintenance of suitable records
- Manage student queries to ensure they are expeditiously resolved and that proactive strategies are in place to systematically reduce the number of queries or complaints concerning the School both in the short and long term
- Develop and implement regular student satisfaction surveys to enhance teaching and learning strategies
- Appoint and manage external and internal examiners / assessors / moderators for assessment purposes
- Appoint and oversee part-time external lecturers
- Implement and manage Recognition of Prior Learning Practices – processes and policies within the areas of expertise
- Monitor and manage throughput and completion rates, implementing strategies for improving student success in the School
- Carry a personal workload of marking of assignments and examination papers
Research
- Foster a research environment for both staff and students
People Management
- Ensure that HR policies and procedures are implemented in relation to School staff
- Oversee the work of academic staff in the School
- Ensure that staff performance is managed appropriately and in a way that is consistent with the expectations of EH, and that fair workload allocation processes are in place
- Ensure all staff including part-time academic staff have access to the necessary support to enable them to contribute fully and develop their skills and experience
- Engender a culture of excellence, co-operation and respect both within and beyond the School
- Make effective use of all staffing resources and seek opportunities for collaboration and joint working with other Schools in Intec and across EH more generally
- Work collaboratively with other student services departments including assessments to ensure effective functioning of academic activities and a positive student experience
Financial Management
- Take responsibility for devolved budgets and comply with Educor Holdings financial regulations
- Manage School income and expenditure in order to promote financial sustainability
- Ensure that equipment/facilities under the School´s control are properly maintained and serviced as required
Quality Assurance
- Ensure all activities are carried out to the highest possible standards and put in place the necessary evaluation and monitoring procedures to ensure both compliance and improvement: such procedures will include teaching, research and management of all resources(human, financial and infrastructure)
Governance, risk and compliance
- Comply with governance, auditing, quality assurance and risk management procedures both internal and external
- Ensure that School records are maintained in accordance with the POPI Act and other legislation
Requirements
- Specialist knowledge in a core discipline in the School(if applicable)
- Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework applicable to the School and to Intec
- Ability to engage constructively with people at all levels
- Excellent communication skills(written and verbal)
- Good advocacy, ambassadorial and diplomatic skills
- Excellent delegation skills
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic environment
