JOHANNESBURG – Former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu is set to continue her testimony at the Life Esidimeni hearings on Thursday.

Wednesday’s testimony revealed that the SA Depression and Anxiety Group had written to Mahlangu, complaining about medicine shortages and poor conditions at NGOs that mentally ill patients were transferred to.
143 of those patients died after being transferred from Life Esidimeni clinics.

Mahlangu was also questioned about reports that senior health officials had suggested she prolong the transfer period by at least a year or consider buying the Life Esidimeni group to provide care for patients.
