AFDA (The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) is the leading film school in SA, and a full member of CILECT, the association of the world’s major film and television schools.

Applications are invited for the position of dcreen and stage acting lecturer.
As a discipline lecturer for the School of Live Performance, AFDA is looking for a committed and dedicated industry professional to lecture and provide support to undergraduate students. The position requires someone with drive and initiative who is able to motivate students and guide them into the world of performance. The candidate needs to demonstrate a willingness to embrace AFDA’s unique pedagogy which is the basis of the interdisciplinary teaching at AFDA.
The following duties are expected to be fulfilled:
- Lecturing first, second and third-year degree stage students
- Facilitating and/or directing student productions
- Conducting student consultations and reflective meetings
- Class Controlling duties.
- Preparing content and lesson plans for each term
- Assessment registration for the term’s assessments
- Creating parity across all campuses on term outcomes
- Attendance registers and class management administration
- Timetable planning
- Curriculum and learning development and implementation

Requirements
- Experience in the theatre, film, radio and entertainment industry
- Five years of experience in a tertiary environment
- Experience of teaching film, TV and stage acting
- Experience of directing for Film, TV and stage
- A Honours in Drama or equivalent qualification
- Computer literacy
- Highly developed organisational skills such as experience in public relations, communication, interviewing skill
- Initiative and a proven record of researching, initialising and controlling productions
- Proven marketing ability and experience in publicity, communication and fundraising
- Maturity to handle a range of situations
- A meticulous and thorough nature
- An ability to work to tight deadlines
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Loyalty and a high level of confidentiality
- Honest and trustworthy – committed to high integrity of excellence
- Culturally aware and sensitive
