Senior Lecturer / Lecturer: Health Economics

As part of its strategic growth plan, the Stellenbosch University Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management is seeking to recruit a full-time senior lecturer. The Centre has been running successfully since 2000 and is known in the world of work for its popular postgraduate diploma in HIV/AIDS Management. We believe that the Centre is the employer of choice because our teaching staff can work within the three streams of teaching, research and community interaction. The Centre is committed to social justice, to teaching that is socially influential in reducing the spread of HIV and to providing the practical skills needed to end AIDS. Applicants with a solid record in postgraduate teaching and research will therefore have an advantage.
Duties:
- Develop and deliver academic content;
- Supervise postgraduate students at PhD and Master’s level;
- Contribute to research and publish results in accredited, influential international journals;
- Participate in the administration and management of departmental activities;
- Participate in the social impact activities of the Centre.
Requirements:
- In the case of a senior lecturer, a PhD from an internationally accredited university;
- In the case of a lecturer, a Master’s degree from an internationally accredited university and a commitment to pursue a PhD in Health Economics and/or any other related field;
- Evidence of active and continuous scholarship in both research and teaching, together with further development potential;
- Some experience in teaching and conducting qualitative research methods;
- Some experience in teaching and supervising at postgraduate level;
- Evidence of industry, government, NGO and AIDS research networks;
- Proficiency in teaching and learning technologies.
Recommendations:
- Experience in the application of HIV/AIDS knowledge and the economic evaluation of HIV interventions for management decision-making.
- Senior leadership experience and willingness to fulfil in an academic leadership role.
- Significant experience in teaching at postgraduate level.
- Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
- Experience in the use of Moodle software.
