Requirements:

Lecturer:

• PhD in zoology or marine biology or another cognate discipline.
• Tutoring, facilitation or conference presentation experience required.
• No teaching experience required.
• Ability to teach in the following disciplinary areas: marine ecophysiology, marine ecology and animal diversity.
• No research supervision required.
• Some administrative experience albeit in informal contexts e.g. student or sports clubs, work experiences. 

Senior lecturer:

• PhD in Zoology or Marine Biology or another cognate discipline.
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required. Experience in teaching in the following disciplinary areas: marine ecophysiology, marine ecology and biological modelling.
• Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required.
• Emerging national profile in discipline.
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal). 

Associate Professor:

• PhD in Zoology or Marine Biology or another cognate discipline.
• Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required including Masters and PhD levels.
• Experience in teaching in the following disciplinary areas: marine ecophysiology, marine ecology and biological modelling.
• Research supervision of Masters and PhD degrees required.
• National and emerging international profile in discipline.
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal). 

Professor:

• PhD in Zoology or Marine Biology or another cognate discipline.
• Extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and post graduate levels required including at Masters and PhD levels.
• Experience in teaching in the following disciplinary areas: marine ecophysiology, marine ecology and biological modelling.
• Research supervision of Masters and PhD degrees required.
• International profile in discipline. Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal). 

Duties include the following, but not limited to:

• Engaging in curriculum development;
• Facilitation of learning;
• Assessment of learning;
• Evaluation of teaching;
• Support of students in their studies;
• Supervision of post-graduate students (where the person has the appropriate qualification to do this);
• Assume leadership responsibilities as they relate to teaching and learning. 

Salary:

Lecturer: R567,661 CTC

Senior lecturer Level: R679,055 CTC

Associate professor level: R802,254 CTC

Professor level: R937,650 CTC
