Screen/stage acting lecturer and discipline champion at AFDA Durban.
As the stage/screen acting lecturer and discipline champion AFDA is looking for a committed and dedicated industry professional with lecturing experience to lecture and provide support to undergraduate students. The existing AFDA screen and stage acting methodology will be followed. The position requires someone with drive and initiative who is able to motivate students and guide them into the world of performance for stage and screen.
The candidate needs to demonstrate a willingness to embrace AFDA’s unique pedagogy which is the basis of the interdisciplinary teaching at AFDA. There is also a strong emphasis on cultural relevance within the teaching, and the need to help the students identify and develop a distinctive African voice to their productions. In this way, we hope to be able to contribute to nation-building and build the foundations for the sustainable local entertainment industry.
Key duties:
- Lecturing the undergraduate students in Screen and stage acting as well as Academic development.
- Capturing and filling of student-related data and feedback.
- Conducting student consultations and reflective meetings
- Preparing lessons for each term based on existing lesson plans.
- Assessment registration for the term’s assessments
- Working as a coordinator for the second year group of Live Performance and keeping contact with and informing Fee payers of the second years.
- Working in a small team with other staff lectures and Head of School.
- Attendance registers and class management administration.
- Timetable planning and Venue scheduling.
- Participating in coordination and delivering events like: open day’s, awards ceremony, graduation festival and staff development training.
Requirements and personal attributes:
- At least two years’ experience in the entertainment industry both for screen and stage.
- At least two years’ experience as a lecturer in a relevant institution.
- Relevant Master degree.
- Computer literacy
- Highly developed organisational skills
- Initiative
- Maturity to handle a range of situations
- A meticulous and thorough nature
- An ability to work to tight deadlines
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Loyalty and a high level of confidentiality
- Honest and trustworthy – committed to high integrity of excellence.
