A Research Assistant (12 Months FTC) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Port Elizabeth – Eastern Cape.
Background
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC”) is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
Main purpose of the job
- To recruit and enroll study participants for the Baby GERMS-SA Surveillance project at various enhance surveillance sites and maintain accurate study logs related to enrolment and other study activities
Location
- Dora Nginza Hospital in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape
Key performance areas
- Identify patients who fulfil the criteria for the Baby GERMS-SA surveillance case definitions at various enhance surveillance sites
- Scan medical records of patients who meet the surveillance or research study case definitions
- Maintain study logs related to enrolment and other study activities
- Responsible for the proper documentation of all study activities
- Implement and monitor the surveillance as directed by management and see the surveillance through to completion
- Review the quality of imaged/scanned medical records before data abstraction
- Trace specimen or results of routine investigations from enhanced surveillance sites diagnostic laboratories
- Ensure effective team-working with other key surveillance, research and hospital-based staff
- File surveillance and research records after data collection
Required minimum education and training
- Grade 12
Required minimum work experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Research Assistant or within a health care environment
Additional work experience and personal abilities
- Proficient in MS-Excel, Outlook and Word
- Experience with RedCap or other database applications
- Self-motivated, hardworking and able to work under pressure
- Excellent time management skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be detailed oriented, diligent and hard working
- Ability to work with ethnically, culturally and sexually diverse individuals and communities
- Driver’s license required
