Two people died when their vehicle caught fire near Tembisa in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team responded to the incident in Zuurfontein Road in Chloorkop just after midnight.
“On arrival, a hatchback light motor vehicle was covered by a ball of flames,” DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said.
He said the flames were extinguished.
One of the occupants of the vehicle, a man, was found lying motionless next to the car.
“The other adult occupant of unknown gender [was found] burnt beyond recognition inside the vehicle. Both were declared deceased on [the] scene by paramedics,” Ntladi said.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver might have lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a metal pole before the vehicle burst into flames.
The scene was handed over to police officers for further investigation.
