Job description
Job purpose
The creative director is responsible for collaborating with clients to identify future-forward solutions and drive creative thought leadership. Furthermore, this role ensures that all creative standards are adhered to and is responsible for all digital assets produced by the creative department.
Job objectives
Leadership
- Providing leadership and direction that harnesses the power of the collective team to achieve our business objectives
- Drive leadership in terms of creative excellence for our business and for clients
- Provide direct leadership and growth to team members and relevant resources
- Assist with driving departmental targets and goals, helping each team member to achieve these goals
Strategic/analytics
- Build on strategy and insight to ideate and create the concept and creative direction.
- Identify opportunities in the market to create new and unique experiences.
- Define and evaluate relevant digital channels and understand the role that each platform plays within the overall ecosystem to deliver multi-channel user experiences.
- Lead the design of insight-driven digital creative from concept through to execution
- Identify key value drivers within the creative department and be able to optimally increase efficiencies in order to drive profitability
Consultancy (internal/external)
- Communicate and collaborate with clients to ideate, develop content and present concepts.
- Collaborate with platform partners to innovate and enhance creative ideas.
- Brief and manage creative collaborators to ensure the quality of creative output.
- Guide and uphold creative excellence and manage output within the creative department.
Delivery
- Conceptualise and present ideas that fulfill both client briefs and the strategic insights.
- Transform ideas & client needs into unique user experiences.
- Championing innovative creative solutions (internally and for clients)
- Guide, inspire and oversee concept creation within the creative department
- Oversee all creative production and content creation, including but not limited to: design, copywriting, video, audio etc.
- Drive accountability for the creative process within the creative department
- Ensure visual communication and brand standards are met across all creative deliverables (internally and externally)
Knowledge
Operational knowledge
- Knowledge of effective methods to derive and interpret client objectives
- Knowledge of video art directing
- Knowledge of creative best practices across various digital platforms
- Knowledge of the broader design fields (graphic, multimedia, copywriting etc.)
- Knowledge of design principles
- Knowledge of design processes
- Basic knowledge of general business processes and practices
- Basic knowledge of budgeting principles
- Strong understanding of digital marketing and success factors
- Knowledge of effective methods to derive and interpret client objectives
- Knowledge of how to lead and inspire the creative team in developing innovative solutions for clients

- Understanding and familiarisation of digital and social content distribution platforms
- Knowledge and interaction with creative specialists in the content creation space.
- Knowledge and understanding of digital design trends and latest industry innovations
- Knowledge of TTL advertising
- Understanding what the trends and subcultures are, to be able to develop creative that is relevant
Technical knowledge
- Knowledge of design software and equipment
- Knowledge and understanding of social platforms and best practice tools
- Knowledge of digital platforms and channels (formats and outputs)
- Knowledge of Multi-channel platform integration
- Knowledge of Multi-programme integration (e.g. Adobe Illustrator to Photoshop)
- Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- A deep understanding of what innovative factors (e.g. technologies) drive creative and vice versa

Experience
Operational
- Seven+ years of experience in a creative role within a marketing or agency environment across multiple industries (essential)
- Solid experience developing online and digital advertising campaigns (big brand experience preferred)
- Five+ years of experience managing or directing teams of people (essential)
- Basic level of experience managing departmental budgets (desirable)
Consultancy
- Expert level of experience in presenting creative work to clients
- Demonstrated track record of consultancy with executive level clients
Technical
- Expert level of experience using Adobe Creative Suite (essential)
- Intermediate level of experience using web design tools (essential)
- Expert level of experience using presentation software (e.g. Keynote)
Industry-specific
- Three+ years of experience within a Digital marketing environment (essential)
- Demonstrated track record in strategic creative excellence
- Two+ years of experience within an international/global marketing organisation (desirable)
Qualification(s)
- National diploma in graphic design or marketing (essential)
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) (desirable)
