OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Team Lead of the Digital Media Strategy department will be responsible for ensuring the success of the digital media planning & buying for each of Incubeta’s media managed services clients. This is to be accomplished through the setup and management of a team of planners & buyers. The ultimate goal of this team is building the clients brands and generating leads in the most optimal ways across the most effective platforms/channels. This role will require an omni-channel strategic approach with a mix of innovative, creative and tech-savvy approaches, as well as direct niche publisher relationships, to develop and oversee the implementation of robust digital media strategies and associated media plans whilst leading the Media Planning & Buying team within Incubeta.
SO WHAT IS A TEAM LEAD OF DIGITAL MEDIA STRATEGY?
The Digital Media Strategy Team Lead is responsible for delivering a consistent gold standard media planning & buying service for the business, ensuring the highest possible return on investment for Incubeta which contributes to increasing market penetration and competitive presence.
In more simple words, the Digital Media Strategy Team Lead will be responsible for building and managing a team aimed at developing clients digital media strategies and associated media plans. There is also a need to present and report back on the performance of these digital media strategies and media plans to clients as well as internal Incubeta teams. They are also expected to contribute to any new business pitches or existing client Quarterly / Annual reviews as well as managing the Media Planning & Buying team’s career development and the department’s overall utilisation & profitability.
The Media Strategy Team Lead must have the ability to represent the department or company’s perspective to internal and external stakeholders as well as provide subject matter expertise on Digital media planning strategy and media negotiations strategy.
PLACE WITHIN ORGANISATION
- Collaborating with the Client Service team, being client-facing where required and being part of the global operations team.
- The custodian of Digital Media Strategy best practice & bridge between the clients and the global operations team (consultants & traders) for any managed media services
- Reporting into Operations Director
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
IMPERATIVE
- 7 years +
- Experience in Media or Digital agencies / advertisers Media Management department or Media Company / Media Research Agencies
- In-depth understanding of the South African and rest of Africa media market (ie, media cost dynamics, landscape, media usage trends, etc.)
- Experience in both media planning and buying along with a strong digital foundation is a requirement, with an ability to stay ahead of the ever-evolving media landscape
- Ability to build networks. Very strong supplier relationship management skills. Has well established external media network
- Strategic thinking for alignment with the company’s long term objectives.
- Digital Expertise: experienced with all forms of digital platforms (DV360), types of buys & formats (Programmatic, Direct Buys etc) and measurement ( Google analytics etc)
- Strong negotiating skills as well as the ability to analyze disparate streams of data is needed.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills when working in a cross-functional organisation
- Organised and detail oriented. Strong problem solving skills
ADVANTAGE
- Ideally this candidate may already hold a similar position within an advertiser or will have the credentials to move from the media agency environment.
- Previous digital marketing performance experience (media, technology, creative) – please refer to the Incubeta website for services offered.
- Managerial expertise of media planners and / or strategist
- Knowledge of digital transformation projects
TASKS
- Work closely with the Client Services and Global operations team to embed centrally generated best practice media planning and buying guidelines, KPI’s and standardised reporting.
- Develop and present digital media strategy that maximize ROI on the media investments for Incubeta clients.
- Provide strategic research including market insights and/or media landscape insights, market and channel mix recommendations.
- Ensure the working media budget is efficiently and effectively optimised ensuring timely delivery of campaigns against budget.
- Ensure that the media strategy: planning and buying department operates at its full potential for the company across all aspects of the business.
- Champion digital strategy within the business and be the company’s custodian of digital strategy & digital media planning and buying.
- Management of the media planning and buying between Publishers (media owners) and Incubeta.
- Monitor and manage compliance of the best practice way of a working process between client briefing and operational implementation.
- Actively advise and present opportunities that align to potential business objectives – either internally (to the Client Service teams) or directly to Incubeta clients.
- Responsibility for ensuring internal teams are kept up to date with advancements in the Media Strategy department’s best practices. These practices will need to be aligned to our Incubeta Consulting narrative in the market.
- Track performance of preferred local media supplier buying to ensure it is within the company’s guidelines.
- Foster relationships within Incubeta to strengthen relationships with other departments
- Responsible for management of Digital Media Strategy: Media Planning and Buying team which includes career progression mapping, guiding appraisals, assisting HR with recruitment etc
