News24.com | JUST IN: Apartheid-era breakaway Conservative Party MP Tom Langley dies
A founder of the apartheid-era Conservative Party (CP) died on Friday, the same day as his political foe Pik Botha.
“I can confirm he died yesterday [Friday] afternoon,” said Corne Mulder, Chief Whip of the Freedom Front Front Plus, which has some of its roots in the CP.
It is understood that he died on his farm in Limpopo.
“He and Pik Botha had a political feud for many years and I know that he at some stage said he wanted to outlive Pik Botha. Ironically they died on the same day,” said Mulder.
Botha died on Friday at home at the age of 86 after a spell in hospital.

Langley formed part of a group of National Party Members of Parliament led by Andries Treurnicht.
They would not accept former head of state PW Botha’s apparent leanings towards “power sharing” with people not classified white, in an era of “swart gevaar” (black danger).
They construed this to be the first step towards a black government and erosion of the rights of minorities and Afrikaners. They were also deeply opposed to the anti-apartheid movement’s association with the SA Communist Party and saw the movement as a threat to country’s security.
They broke away to form the CP in 1982 and became the official opposition in Parliament, surpassing the liberal Progressive Federal Party, to the shock of many.
The party also called for a “no” vote in a referendum on whether there should be “power sharing” in the form of a tricameral parliament – where there would be separate houses of parliament for people classified as coloured and Indian, but not for black representatives.
One of its leaders Clive Derby-Lewis was incarcerated for helping Polish national Janusz Walus kill SACP leader Chris Hani in 1993.
Mulder said Langley was the spokesperson for the CP and after the first democratic elections, the late former president Nelson Mandela posted Langley to Prague as ambassador for South Africa, in one of his characteristic politically inclusive moves.
Mulder said Mandela contacted the Freedom Front Plus and asked for names for the post and they suggested two. Mandela chose Langley for Prague and Carl Werth served as ambassador in Singapore.
Werth later joined the Democratic Party, predecessor to the DA, and then the ANC.
Mulder said Langley was a strong youth leader for the National Party when he entered politics and played an important role in the difficult days of the early 80s, when he was chairperson of the foreign affairs committee in Parliament.
He said it was while shadow minister of foreign affairs that he and Botha constantly disagreed.
Langley’s constituency was Waterkloof before he left politics and went farming.
“But I think he played an important role. He was basically always in the leadership of the official opposition in those days.”

Health24.com | Are STDs a deal breaker? This expert weighs in on how to tell her
If you thought the “your friends are annoying and I never want to hang out with them again” conversation was awkward, try telling a potential partner you have an STD.
That confession is never easy, sure. But the shame associated with having an STD makes people less likely to talk about it with former, current, and future partners, finds a new review from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
With the number of sexually transmitted infections in young people increasing by half a million, in the last two years, in Gauteng alone, it’s something to think about… and most definitely talk about, too.
The key to dating again is telling her about it the right way. Here are a few expert tips to help you break the news to a potential partner.

Curable STD? Just delay the deed
“If you just started dating someone and you’re being treated for a curable STD, don’t have sex and don’t bring it up,” says Dr Patrick Wanis, communications expert and relationship therapist. “You’re not out to manipulate her – so if her health isn’t at risk, there’s no need mention it,” he says. “It could lead to unfair judgment for no reason.”
Your move: Say you want to hold off on sex until you know each other better. (Just don’t put yourself in compromising situations – like in her bed after a night of drinking!) And of course, make sure you have the doctor’s OK before doing to the deed.
But if you’re dealing with an incurable STD (herpes, AIDS or hepatitis B, for example), you’ll need to have a talk.
Here’s your plan:
1. Don’t bring it up too soon
Start dating as you normally would. “You wouldn’t reveal everything about yourself on the first date anyway,” says Dr Wanis. After all, there could be no chemistry and she might turn out to be just a friend.
“Once feelings are involved, you don’t want to wait too long,” says Wanis. “It will just make it more difficult if she says it’s a deal-breaker.” Think: Serious enough but not too serious. Just delay the talk (and sex!) until you’re sure it could develop into a relationship.

2. How to tell her
State the facts without victimising yourself or being defensive, Dr Wanis recommends. “You’re telling the truth and that’s nothing to be ashamed of.” Being too defensive might increase judgment on her part. It’s not a reflection of who you are so don’t present it as such.
What if she tells her friends? By breaking the news free of shame yourself, she’ll be less likely to tell people with the intention of hurting you if things go sour. That said, “Be prepared that she might go to her friends for advice,” says Dr Wanis.

Another good thing to mention: Explain how to reduce transmission. “You need to explain how it will affect your sex life together,” says Dr Wanis. If you have herpes, for instance, you can greatly lower her chances of getting the disease with antiviral medication and condoms. Mention anything specific to your disease that she should know.
3. Give her time
Don’t expect an answer in the moment. “Present the facts, express that you still want to see her, but tell her to think it over,” Dr Wanis says. Any initial reaction will be out of fear or obligation.

4. Be brief with the details
“People often want the back story,” says Dr Wanis. “But the more details she has, the more she’ll visualise the event.” Keep it brief. Sure, you can admit that it came from an ex, a friend or even that random shot-girl from Cancun – but keep it minimal. She doesn’t need to replay your past in her mind.

Sport24.co.za | WP wing pays price for head butt
Cape Town – Western Province under-19 wing Christian Ambadiang will only be allowed to play rugby again in March after being found guilty of serious foul play.
According to Netwerk24, Ambadiang was found guilty on two separate cases at a SA Rugby disciplinary hearing.
Ambadiang was involved in an ugly on-field fight (WATCH below) with Eastern Province under-19 fullback Dylan le Roux during an SA Rugby U19 Championship match in Despatch late last month.
Shocking video footage emerged of the incident in which both players received red cards.
The incident took place when Ambadiang was tackled by Le Roux.
After the tackle, both players can be seen getting into a scuffle.
Cameroon-born Ambadiang pushes Le Roux, who responds with a punch to the face that sees members of both sides rushing to stop the altercation.
Once everything has settled down, the referee shows both players a red card, but it doesn’t stop there.
The footage shows the two players walking off together and Ambadiang, clearly not happy with having been punched, head-butts Le Roux, who then throws another punch.
A spokesperson for SA Rugby said Ambadiang was suspended for three weeks for the red card – after which a 16-week suspension comes into effect for the head butt.
The ban has been split into two parts so the December off-season period is not taken into account – which effectively means the player can only play rugby again on March 1.
WP also started with their own internal investigation against Ambadiang, while it’s not certain whether EP will do the same with Le Roux.
