Sport24.co.za | Blitzboks trounce NZ, 1 win from Sevens title glory
Cape Town – The Blitzboks are still in with a chance of defending their World Rugby Sevens title after they emphatically beat New Zealand 24-12 in their semi-final at the Paris Sevens.
South Africa enjoyed a perfect start to the match with Werner Kok scoring after just a minute on the board.
Dewald Human missed with his conversion attempt, but the Blitzboks led 5-0.
The rest of the half saw no further points scored, but was filled with end-to-end action and simply incredible defence by both teams on occasions. ,.
The second half started much like the first with the Blitzboks scoring early as Human stepped his marker to cruise over under the posts for a converted try and a 12-0 lead.
Ruhan Nel then extended the lead soon after as he crashed over for an unconverted try to make the score 17-0.
New Zealand hit back through Jona Nareki bringing the score to 17-7, but Human was on again hand to stop any thought of a comeback as he scored his second for a 24-7 lead.
New Zealand were last to score, when Joseva Ravouvou cruised through under the posts, but it was too little too late as South Africa marched on to the final where they will face England.
Kick-off is at 18:54 (SA time).
Earlier in the day England beat Fiji 19-17 in the quarter-finals to open the door for South Africa.

News24.com | Land: AfriForum considers legal action against Parliament’s process to amend Constitution
Lobby group AfriForum is considering taking legal action regarding the expropriation of land without compensation, the organisation said in a statement on Sunday.
AfriForum’s deputy CEO Ernst Roets said the organisation had notified Parliament in writing that it would be consulting its legal team regarding declaring Parliament’s process to amend Section 25 of the Constitution to empower the state to expropriate property without compensation, as illegal.
Roets said this was after attempts by the Constitututional Review Committee to consult with the public regarding the amendment of Section 25 already had to “bid defiance to various procedural crises”.
The committee will embark on its provincial tour to gain public input into the issue from June 26.

Roets claimed that it seemed to AfriForum that the process related to gaining the public’s input had been manipulated from the beginning to reach an outcome that would support the ruling party’s stance.
He said, “AfriForum has identified ten potential procedural irregularities that may have a substantial impact on the outcome of the process regarding the public hearings that have been organised for this objective and that already need to kick off in two weeks.”
The ten issues include that many of the venues and times at which these public hearings will take place were still not known to the public.
The organisation said the agenda that would be followed was also not known.
“Contradicting lists with different dates and venues for these public hearings were published by the committee. It is clear that the venues that were chosen in which these public hearings will take place are mostly located within wards in which the ruling party has more support.
“Too few public hearings are being arranged, which would exclude a significant section of the South African population. The public hearings are organised within the vicinity of only a small section of the South African population,” said Roets.
He said no security arrangements had been made public regarding the hearings.
“Major metropolitans are excluded from the process in which no public hearings would take place.
“It appears that none to very little marketing has been done to inform the public of these public hearings, even though very little time is left between the drafting of this letter and the first public hearing, which is scheduled to take place on June 26, 2018.”
Roets said AfriForum had pleaded to the parliamentary committee to urgently tackle these issues.
“The organisation has also communicated that even though it reserves its rights in this regard, it will still participate in the public participation processes with the aim to lay out important facts regarding expropriation without compensation,” he said.
Parliament published its final, updated version of dates regarding the tour on May 30.
Most provinces have specific venues attached to their dates, with some awaiting confirmation. Times, however, have not been published.

The committee was empowered to look into the issue after Parliament passed a motion in that regard on February 27.
Committee co-chairperson Vincent Smith could not immediately be reached via phone on Sunday.
eNCA | DA dismisses reports City of Joburg is ‘cash-strapped’
JOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Alliance has rejected a Sunday newspaper report that the DA-led City of Johannesburg is in financial trouble.
The DA has noted a report in the City Press that the city is “cash-strapped” and “heading for a bailout”, and rejects the allegations as false and a misrepresentation of the city’s finances, DA spokeswoman Refiloe Nt’sekhe said.
“The new DA-led administration had worked tirelessly to stabilise finances and this intervention was already yielding positive results. Thanks to the city’s revenue collection drive, Operation Buya Mthetho, May was one of the highest revenue collection months in the city’s history. This could be directly attributed to a team of highly skilled professionals in the city, who were putting the interests of residents first as part of a fruitful turnaround plan,” Nt’sekhe said.
“Our ongoing fight to reverse the damage done to the city’s finances by previous ANC administrations has been well-documented. Since taking over the [city] after our 2016 local government election victory, the DA-led administration has committed itself to ensuring efficient service delivery for all citizens of Johannesburg, especially the poor.
“The previous ANC administration’s corruption has robbed the poor of not only quality service delivery, but much-needed jobs as well. The DA’s determination to address the consequences of this corruption is evidenced by our pursuit of 3500 graft cases in the city,” Nt’sekhe said.
The City Press report appeared to be critical of the money the city spent on forensic investigations into corruption in the city administration. This was, however, exactly what was required to ensure that corruption never reared its head again in the city, as it was the reason for the country’s skyrocketing unemployment rate – currently at 9.5 million people.
“Despite the money lost to ANC corruption, the city still has a balance of R3.279 billion and this will be carefully managed as we continue to provide quality services. Furthermore, we will attract much needed investment to improve the city in order to create more jobs for residents and maintain Johannesburg’s reputation as one of Africa’s economic powerhouses. The City of Johannesburg will continue to prioritise its citizens through efficient service delivery and a pro-poor agenda that will lift its people out of poverty,” Nt’sekhe said.

Health24.com | 4 tips for getting superhero muscle from Deadpool’s trainer
Deadpool 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of the year thanks to its quick-witted humour, inability to take itself seriously and of course Ryan Reynolds (beloved by everybody).
Read more: Ryan Reynolds’ 7.5 rules for being totally awesome like Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds is one of the funniest men in Hollywood, but he is also one of the fittest. So what was his secret to getting superhero muscle ahead of Deadpool?
Work towards long-term fitness, says Don Saladino, Reynolds’s trainer. These are his four ways to armour-plate your body:
1. Find focus
“This is a mindset issue,” says Saladino, “but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter if Ryan’s benching 125kg. What matters is that he can perform with optimal energy, recovery and resiliency. That’s why we train.”
2. Prep first
“We go for an hour,” says Saladino, “but we always start with five minutes of foam-rolling and then 10 to 12 minutes of movement prep where we attack any areas of his body that are tight and need to move better.”

3. Do variations
“One thing that worked for Deadpool was incorporating heavy training. Instead of doing 8 and 10 reps, we’re starting with 4s, 3s, and 2s, progressing from 75% of max to 85%, then 95%.”

4. Train for function
Reynolds does jumping, throwing and carrying in every session. “People underuse carries,” says Saladino. “Double farmer walks, single-arm carries and up-down carries really help stabilise the core and shoulders.

News24.com | Mkhize denies R4.5m PIC kickback allegations
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Zweli Mkhize on Sunday denied a media report that he demanded a R4.5m kickback for allegedly facilitating a loan to an oil company from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).
“The allegations published by the Sunday Times newspaper today, about some R4.5m ‘kickback’ or ‘facilitation fee’ that I am supposed to be seeking due to a loan that was granted to a company called Afric Oil by the Public Investment Corporation are a ridiculous and malicious fabrication,” Mkhize said in a short statement on Sunday.
“I have never facilitated the said loan negotiations nor have I sought any ‘facilitation fee’ from the said company. It is extremely unacceptable and mischievous for my name to be dragged into a matter that I have nothing to do with in this manner.”
Mkhize said he was seeking legal advice on the matter.
His response comes after the Sunday Times this weekend reported that a letter of demand from a Johannesburg law firm had allegedly exposed the requested kickback from Mkhize and other ANC supporters.
According to the Sunday Times, the letter dated October 2017, names Mkhize in a legal claim against Afric Oil.
The letter claims that, at meeting at Luthuli House in 2016, a loan application to the PIC was discussed and Mkhizwe, who was then ANC treasurer general, allegedly agreed to promote Afric Oil’s projects.
It is alleged that this included providing support for the facilitation of the PIC loan.
‘No pending action against me’
In a second and longer statement on Sunday, Mkhize fleshed out his position.
He said he had also received questions from the publication asking if he had any relationship with Zonkizizwe Investments, and whether he facilitated the PIC loan for Afric Oil.
“I made it clear that I have never facilitated such a loan and I have no relationship with Zonkizizwe. This I still maintain. I have also now learnt through the article that there are lawyers who have instituted action against certain parties wherein my name is mentioned.
“To date I have not seen such a lawyer’s letter nor is there any action pending against me or by me on such a matter.”
Mkhize said he had not been provided with “a shred of evidence” on when he had faciliated the alleged loan, or with whom he had engaged with.
“Interestingly enough, despite the Sunday Times establishing that there was a person who confirms having facilitated this PIC loan, the newspaper still elected to make the entire front page headline to revolve around me.”
“In my view it can only be meant to tarnish and defame my name without much substance,” he claimed. He accused “this kind of journalism” of being “sensational and unprofessional”, and an attempt to sell newspapers.
“I reiterate, as said in my earlier statement, that I will immediately seek legal advice on how to deal with this matter and the recourse I can get.”
During his tenure as ANC treasurer general, Mkhize said he met with various companies who would brief him on operations.
“This is no way meant that my intervention was required. At no stage did I enter into an agreement to facilitate loans for a fee,” he concluded.
