It is said “not all heroes wear capes” but one thing is for sure, it takes a village. Mxolisi Dimaza, Member of Provincial Legislature (MPL) and Chairperson of Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Health Portfolio Committee, not only found it deep in his pockets, but also in his heart, as he took it upon himself by personally sponsoring brand-new sports equipment at Gobizizwe High Senior Secondary School in Mthatha.
The need for this came to Dimaza’sattention and devotion when he spearheaded a School during the visits by the Portfolio Committee team that consisted of officials from Provincial Legislature and Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE). After the visit to Gobizizwe High School, Dimaza promised to bring the school sports wear and equipment, in order to curb the burning issues faced by the pupils in the community and by the school at large.
“Making a promise is one thing, but keeping it is another big deal,” said Dimaza. The purpose of the school visits give the Portfolio Committee great detail and insight of the challenges faced by the schools. “It is quite saddening that our children outside the classrooms are consumers of drugs and are busy committing crimes, because there are no extra mural activities that uplift them. These sports kits and equipment will hopefully change their lives,” added Dimaza.
Gobizizwe Senior Secondary School principal Thuli Mbixane was full of joy as she was presented with this gift and referred to Dimaza as “a gift from God”.
