Sport24.co.za | Mashrafe: Tigers could’ve won if we got AB out
Cape Town – Bangladesh would have levelled the three-match ODI series if AB de Villiers had gone out early says Tigers skipper Mashrafe Mortaza.
However, it wasn’t to be as De Villiers produced a blistering performance that saw the former Proteas skipper fall 12 runs short of Gary Kirsten’s 188* – the highest score by a South African in ODI cricket.
The Proteas sat at 90/2 when De Villiers walked into the middle, but the Proteas star batsman soon took control of the match smashing 176 off 104 balls, which included 15 fours and 7 sixes.

Mortaza praised De Villiers for his sparkling ton and said that if the Bangladesh bowling attack could have gotten him out early – the game would have ended differently.
“Every team lack an AB de Villiers. He can destroy any bowling attack on his day. Shakib brought us back a little bit after taking two wickets. If we could get the wicket of AB then it could have been a different story,” said Mortaza, as quoted by the Dhaka Tribune.
“As a bowler anything less than 100 percent, he is going to pounce on you. If we could have removed him early, we may as well have won the game.
“If he got out at 100, we could have still been in the game. The next 76 runs made a lot of difference.”
The Proteas went on to win the second ODI in Paarl by 104 runs and clinch the three-match ODI series but Mortaza hopes the Tigers can bounce back in East London.
“There were a few chances here and there but it wasn’t our day. Hopefully we will bounce back,” he said.
The third and final ODI gets underway on Sunday at Buffalo Park in East London.
Play starts at 10:00.
eNCA | Political violence inherited from apartheid era: Zikalala
JOHANNESBURG – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is blaming apartheid and colonialism for the violence in the province.
Chairperson Sihle Zikalala told the Moerane commission of inquiry into political killings on Thursday that a culture of violence is ingrained in communities of that era.
“The ANC wishes to caution against and dispute the view that the killings are the ANC’s problem alone. It is our submission to this commission that these killings are a broader societal problem, one that was inherited from our past apartheid colonialism era whose legacy lingers until this day,” he said.
Nineteen ANC members have been murdered in KwaZulu-Natal since January last year, Zikalala said.
By contrast, other parties collectively have lost 10 members in that time.

Over the past few months, several witnesses at the commission have blamed the ANC death toll on infighting.
Former premier Senzo Mchunu — the political rival of Zikalala — last month laid bare details of factionalism and corruption within the party.
Zikalala alluded to this, saying: “Those who are in the ANC have not only sought to speak with authority on so-called internal weaknesses and squabbles in the ANC, but have also in the process tried to insulate themselves and posture either as victims or messiahs.”
But he insisted his representation to the commission was not a response to anyone else’s submissions.

Zikalala nevertheless conceded that contestation for power, inter-political conflict and careerism were feeding the violence.

Health24.com | 3 random things that can mess with your mammogram results
Do you stick to your annual check-ups? Your yearly mammogram after a certain age?
“Early detection saves lives.” This mantra – the crux of countless public service announcements and awareness campaigns around cancer – is as encouraging as it is empowering.
Plus, underdiagnosis remains a problem in SA, where cancers are often caught too late.
But at the opposite end of the spectrum, another issue is on the rise: that of overdiagnosis. As technology advances, science can now zoom in on miniscule flaws that make cancer detection a murkier matter.

Take mammography…
If five women over the age of 40 were to get mammograms, one of them would be saved from dying of breast cancer.
But another three could be called back for additional testing for a “false positive”, something that looks like cancer, but turns out to be harmless: a cyst or calcium deposit, benign tumour or dense tissue.
This phenomenon is being called overdiagnosis and, in recent years, it has morphed into a lightning rod due to the collateral damage it can cause: patients are exposed to the cost, emotional turmoil and side effects – some of them life-threatening themselves – of unnecessary surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Unlikely things can make mammograms more difficult to read – or throw off the results altogether.
Here are three common things that can also mess with your mammogram results in a pretty substantial way:
1. Breast implants
Saline or silicone fillers can make it tricky to see certain parts of your breast during imaging. Ask your doctor to refer you to a clinic with experience reading scans of women with implants.
2. Tattoos
In rare cases, tattoo ink can look like a cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes. Make sure your doctor and radiologist know if you have skin art anywhere on your body.
3. Deodorant
Some antiperspirants contain substances that can show up on a mammogram as white spots. Skip it the day of your test.
These four factors could all cause a pregnancy test to be wrong. Plus: Here’s exactly how to skip your period every month.
