Cape Town – An inspired attacking display from Griquas saw them shock Western Province with a 44-34 Currie Cup win in Kimberley on Wednesday.
Province had started as overwhelming favourites, but in the end Griquas scored five tries to secure their first win of the season.
WP also scored five tries.
A strong start by the hosts saw them cruise to a 17-3 lead, but Western Province hit back with two tries of their own to go into the break 17-15 down.
It looked like Province were going to pull away as they took the lead in the second half, but the Griquas attack was always dangerous and they got their reward for some brave decisions to run from deep.
The result means that WP slip down to sixth on the Currie Cup log while Griquas move up to fourth.

eNCA | Women’s minister calls for action against ‘abusive’ Cabinet members
JOHANNESBURG – Minister of Women Susan Shabangu used Women’s Day to point fingers at two Cabinet members who have been exposed behaving badly towards women.
Speaking at the official Women’s Day celebration in Kimberley, she said Deputy Minister of Higher Education Mduduzi Manana should be held accountable for his actions.
Manana has admitted to slapping a woman at Cubana nightclub in Fourways, Johannesburg.

“The key issue is about the action itself and I expected the ANC before the government to take up the matter and make sure that he also faces consequences about his behaviour.Shabangu said those in power must not get preferential treatment if they have done wrong.
“Many people end up just saying sorry when it comes to violence against women. Sorry is not enough. We cannot treat people differently, they must all face the law. I did not go into this but it’s also about sexual harassment.”
She was referring to Minister Jeff Radebe, who was caught up in a sexting scandal with a government employee.
Shabangu said later that the police must act speedily on the complaint laid against Manana.

News24.com | ‘We need a new government now’ – Maimane
Cape Town – Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane on Wednesday morning called for the dissolution of Parliament, saying South Africans have lost trust in the ruling African National Congress.
In terms of Section 50 of the Constitution, President Jacob Zuma should call for early elections once a motion to dissolve Parliament succeeds, Maimane said.
“We say, bring it on! Let’s fight an election for the future of our country, and let’s do it now. By the time Jacob Zuma has destroyed the ANC completely, and the country, it will be too late. Let’s let the country choose a new beginning, now.”
Speaking to journalists at a press briefing to announce the DA’s “plan of action” following a failed motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday, Maimane said the official opposition will table the motion to dissolve Parliament on Thursday.
Zuma survived the vote of no confidence on Tuesday after 198 MPs voted against a motion of no confidence in him. Some 177 MPs voted in favour of the motion and nine MPs abstained.
Around 30 ANC MPs are believed to have voted against the party line and in favour of the motion.
Maimane said the motion proved that South Africans are not divided along racial or political lines, but by “those who support and defend corruption and those who are against it in all its forms”.
“The change we need, and the new beginning we all want, will not come from an ANC elective conference in December. We need a new government, and a new beginning, now! That’s why we need fresh elections and a fresh mandate.”
Maimane said the DA has filed an intervening application in the Constitutional Court case on the procedures to be followed in impeachment proceedings against the president.
He said the party will also continue its legal action against Zuma and “his group of corrupt friends” when Zuma has to defend himself in the Supreme Court of Appeal in September against the 783 charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering.
The DA is challenging a National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decision to withdraw the charges close to the time Zuma was sworn in as president as 2009.
Maimane said that Tuesday’s failed motion is not the end of South Africa’s “young democracy”, but is a “new beginning.”
“South Africa is now truly on the cusp of renewal and change. And that change cannot come soon enough.”
eNCA | ‘Parliament must be dissolved and early elections held’: DA
CAPE TOWN – The DA will bring a motion on Thursday to have Parliament dissolved.
At a media briefing on Wednesday, the opposition party also called for an early election, following Tuesday’s failed motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane said although the motion was defeated, the fact that about 30 ANC MPs voted with the opposition showed the country has lost confidence in the ruling party.

“Jacob Zuma survived another (motion of no confidence) protected by the party that elected him twice and shielded him from accountability,” said Maimane.
“Voters should have the chance to express their opinion about the conduct of the ANC in defending Zuma” through an early election.
We will table the motion to dissolve Parliament tomorrow & will ensure it is debated & voted on ASAP! #EarlyElection
— Democratic Alliance (@Our_DA) August 9, 2017
“Jacob Zuma has brought South Africa and his own party to its knees,” Maimane said.
“Parliament requires a fresh mandate and that mandate ought to be given by the voters through the ballot box.”
It’s time for South Africa to have a government that actually cares, & delivers. Enough with corruption & looting. #EarlyElection pic.twitter.com/cagoi7A1j2
— Democratic Alliance (@Our_DA) August 9, 2017
Opposition parties will also ask the Constitutional Court in September to take action against parliamentary Speaker Baleka Mbete for not disciplining Zuma following the ruling that he broke his oath of office in the Nkandla matter.
