Watch the video: How to Make a Healthier Caesar Salad
1. Heat grill pan to medium-high. Mist chicken breasts with olive oil spray, and season with 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Grill chicken until just cooked through, about 5–6 minutes per side. Place chicken on a cutting board and let rest about 5 minutes to allow juices to redistribute; cut into bite-size pieces.
2. Mix next 8 ingredients and remaining salt and pepper in a blender until well-combined and creamy, scraping down blender sides, as necessary. Add 1 tablespoon water to thin. Stir in grated Parmesan.
3. Toss lettuce, croutons, and dressing in a large bowl; divide among 4 plates. Arrange chicken over salads, sprinkling each evenly with shaved Parmesan.
RUSTENBURG – African National Congress (ANC) deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa and former African Union Commission chairperson and ex-wife of President Jacob Zuma, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, will address separate rallies in the North West this weekend.
Ramaphosa is set to speak at the National Union of Mineworkers Youth Structure (NUM-YS) rally at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday. He is expected to deliver a public lecture on “The current struggles and the relevance of the alliance”.
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is expected to address the ANC Youth League’s (ANCYL) youth month rally in Klerksdorp on Saturday.
Ramaphosa and Dlamini-Zuma are the frontrunners to take over the leadership of the ANC at the national elective conference in December.
Dlamini-Zuma is strongly supported by the ANC Women’s League and the ANCYL to take over the leadership baton from president Jacob Zuma.
The SA Communist Party (SACP) and Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) support Ramaphosa to be the next leader of the ANC, on the basis that it has been a tradition in the ANC that the deputy president become the president.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), an affiliate of Cosatu, two weeks ago said resources needed to be made available for the Ramaphosa presidential campaign bid to take off.
In May, the SACP in North West invited Ramaphosa to deliver a public lecture in Rustenburg.
Meanwhile the ANC North West provincial policy conference also starts on Saturday, at the North West University campus in Mahikeng.
The conference aims to consolidate the North West’s position on various policy proposals that will be discussed at the ANC national policy conference scheduled from June 30 in Johannesburg.

Tshwane – The fact that some ANC members have confirmed being implicated in a trove of leaked Gupta emails is good for the political party says its secretary general Gwede Mantashe.
He delivered an address on Friday night at the ANC Gauteng’s policy conference taking place throughout the weekend in Irene.
“There is something positive coming out of these emails up, to now four of our comrades have owned up. Four, yes, owned up.” He told delegates.
Mantashe who used the opportunity to deliver a political school style lecture spoke about the state of branches and members of the party. He also praised those who confirmed their involvement with the family said to have close ties to the president.
The Guptas have been accused of having undue influence over President Jacob Zuma and some state owned enterprises. The family is also said to have had a hand in making key decisions such as appointing ministers in the country.
Their role in claims of state capture has been likened by some, such as the academic fraternity, as a soft coup.
‘We used to lie blatantly’
Among those who have confirmed the claims are Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo who admitted that she had taken a trip to Dubai courtesy of the Gupta family, North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo who was cited as being one of the many faces in the liberation movement to have pitched at their Saxonwold home and the president’s advisor Lakela Kaunda has admitted that in 2008 she was a non-executive director of a Gupta owned company, but resigned after 6 months.
“It didn’t used to happen, we would deny everything [and say] no I don’t know what’s going on. We used to lie blatantly” said Mantashe in explaining how the posture of the party needed to change when it came to negative developments around the party.
“They all said it, yes I was there, yes it true, yes it’s true, yes it’s true,” said the SG in Xhosa.
He also reiterated the calls for a judicial inquiry, which the president has now said he would establish.
“It must be constitutional and enforceable,” said Mantashe.
Mantashe said the 105 year old liberation movement needed to change its posture on matters in the public domain, not only speak out against wrong doings but show that it was actually taking measures to address the problems.
He praised one of his comrades, former mayor of Ekurhuleni and now Member of Parliament Mondli Gungubele for his role in an adhoc committee on communications and its handling of the troubles at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
“When you started confronting the situation at the SABC then people began to see that the ANC knows the difference between right and wrong,” said Mantashe.
No political ideology
The ANC SG also decried the state of branches saying there was a decline in political ideology in the movement.
“Comrades begin to howl and use common sense that is not so common because they are guided by no ideology,” said Mantashe.
Giving insights on areas where current office bearers and stalwarts disagreed, Mantashe said former leaders of the party who had called for a national consultative conference had wanted to discuss the state of the organisation without the branches.
“We didn’t agree with veterans when they said we don’t want the branches [because] their politics [are] too poor,” he said describing the request as flawed.
When you say that you are blaming the victim, he added.
“You recruit a person say for 23 years, then say a member who has been around for 15 years is of poor quality, that member of the branch is a victim of you not doing what you should do,” he said.
Mantsashe said when he visited different branches across the different regions to deliver political school he found leaders, even in regions, did not know about the national democratic revolution.
“This is not isolated. It’s not rare, you come across it everywhere,” he said.
Mantashe said party members were not busy with discussions but too focused on issues around deployment and tenders.
He also said the party needed to accept that society was correct when it placed high expectations on the party.
“When people complain of state capture and that family [the Guptas] we then say what about white monopoly capital,” he went to define this as flawed.
“You are selecting the lowest common denominator to measure yourself because white monopoly capital is the essence of the revolution.”
IRENE, Pretoria – ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe said four party members have admitted that the Gupta emails are the real thing.
Mantashe was addressing the ANC’s Gauteng Provincial policy conference on Friday evening.
He said it’s not doing the movement any good if negative issues are raised and nothing is done about it.
Mantashe said he’s pleased that comrades have owned up.
The ANC Secretary General also warned that expediency, greed and populism could replace principle in the governing party.
He said this willl happen if the party fails to analyse concepts used to divide it.
WATCH : Gwede Mantashe addresses Gauteng ANC policy conference
Mantashe’s speech sounded like a political education session; hard hitting and anchored in history, he urged delegates to avoid the temptation to take short cuts to fix the ANC’s problems.
Some of the Secretary General’s words may have been difficult to stomach for the ANC in Gauteng, which last year called on President Jacob Zuma to do the right thing and step down.
“Some believe Zuma going would solve all problems. It’s a myth. Zuma himself might get the message that it’s time to go, we must go to conference and elect leadership that will say no-alooter-continua, (SIC) no to the looting continuing,” Mantashe said.
He also cautioned that there are no quick fixes in approaching concepts like White Monopoly Capital – which some, including President Zuma, have used to rally support.
Mantashe said if catch phrases like these are not properly analysed, expediency, greed and populism could dislodge principle.
“The ANC’s never been anti-white. It’s always been anti-white domination, When you hate whites it sounds left, but it’s reactionary,’ Mantashe said.
The ANC’s Gauteng Chairperson Paul Mashatile says the patty’s made strides in improving the lives of South Africans.
But that things have gone horribly wrong of late. And the party is perceived as arrogant, self-serving, and embracing corruption and mediocrity.
“We therefore welcome the announcement by the president to establish a judicial commission of inquiry into state capture, as this will go a long way in ensuring that Comrades who are accused of malfeasance are afforded the opportunity to clear their names and we can put this ugly saga behind us,” said Mashatile.
While the ANC wants the focus to be on policy discussions, the succession debate is proving hard to contain.
Delegates drowned each other out in song at the end of day one, a small section sang choruses in support of Zuma and the rest did an ensemble in support of Ramaphosa.

Johannesburg – South Africa A-side coach, Johan Ackermann, praised the effort of his squad after they defeated the French Barbarians 48-28 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Friday.
The win secured a 2-0 sweep over the French tourists after the SA A-side won last Friday’s match in Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium. Ackermann felt the team improved massively from last week’s performance, despite having lock Ruan Botha red-carded late in the first half.
“The red card was a setback, but the way the guys responded made me very proud,” said Ackermann.
“We had to adjust and Jason Jenkins did excellently in calling the line-outs. Overall, it was a much better performance than last week and for that, credit must go to the whole group. We had much better fluency in attack. We did lose some balls in contact, but that happens.”
Ackermann highlighted some of the excellent tries his team scored and lauded the good captaincy from Francois Venter.
“We scored a couple of really brilliant tries, but it was hard work breaking down the French,” said the coach.
“Francois has proven himself as a leader and captain and that showed again tonight. He kept the scoreboard ticking with kicking penalties.”
Ackermann also endorsed the A-team concept. He coached the side in 2016 as well, against the English Saxons. He added that it’s not ideal to only be together for a short time with a squad, but said that the players will be better for the experience of facing tough international opposition.
“It was very pleasing to see how the team has grown in two weeks and how they progressed,” said Ackermann.
“I’ve always know we have the talent and depth here in South Africa. Some of the players showed tonight that they would not let Springboks down and are all capable to go to the next step.
“Playing with confidence is also very important, and tonight we saw that as our confidence improved, so did our performance. The players backed their skills and that was great.
“Time was limited to get the players ready and although a fortnight is a short time to prepare a team, because you have so many boxes to tick, our planning was good and that helped. The upside is the honour of working with players with qualities like these – it is highly rewarding.”
Ackermann applauded the efforts of the French Barbarians and said they proved a real test for his squad.
“The French did not come here to lose – they played very hard and tested our players,” he said.
“Our guys will be better because of that. The quality of the opposition is important to build depth.”
Venter, who was also involved with the SA A team in 2016, said it was a massive honour to play for a representative team.
“It makes South African rugby stronger as it provides an opportunity for the players on the fringes to be involved – I think it’s great for everyone,” said Venter.
“A number of guys has showed their intentions to play at higher honours and as players, we can feel that things are changing for the better in South African rugby.
“The vibe is good all over, the belief is coming back and we also saw that in the Boks. The coach is great working with players and we were all on the same page. That last huddle showed that we really became a team in a very short time, almost sad it is over.”
The SA A team’s tries were scored by Warrick Gelant (2), Chris Cloete (2), Ox Nche and Lionel Mapoe. Fred Zeilinga added five conversions and two penalty goals, while Jano Vermaak converted the final try in the dying moments of the match.

Cape Town – The catastrophic fire in Knysna and surrounds has given the fynbos and vegetation in the area an opportunity for a fresh start, with SANParks even making free indigenous trees available for affected homeowners in the scarred landscape.
According to an aerial survey of the fire scars around the Garden Route National Park, the most affected area was Harkerville, where the flames turned on volunteer firefighter Bradley Richards and colleague Ian Barnard.
Richards was burnt severely on June 8, when the flames rose high, and died later in hospital.
Barnard is recovering from the serious injuries he also sustained in the fire.
According to SANParks, the area that burnt in Harkerville was mostly fynbos islands that had overgrown into thickets because they had not burnt over a few years.
SANParks spokesperson Nandi Mgwadlamba said the fynbos’ recovery was important because it formed one of five biomes of the Cape Floral Kingdom. One way of managing it was through controlled burning, so that the biome stayed as fynbos and did not change into something else.
The burnt veld near the N2, though not an indigenous forest, would recover quickly because of the seeds on the ground.
SANParks said residents now had a great opportunity to remove alien and invasive species from their gardens, and replace them with indigenous species from their local nurseries.
The website iSpot nature is helpful in identifying alien species, or the SANParks’ Biodiversity Social Programme (BSP) teams can help, as can the local municipalities.
Free indigenous tree made available
SANParks is also keeping an eye on landslides into the popular estuary, because of the denuded landscape, and is already liaising with NGOs regarding potential locations for silt traps.
SANParks believes that only heavy rainfall will lead to a landslide.
In the meantime, SANParks scientists Wessel Vermeulen, Melanie de Morney and others have joined up with Knysna animal welfare groups to help animals outside of the park, which would have been stranded in peri-urban areas and could not escape the fire.
These include buck, monkeys, and even pets.
The Gift of the Givers has also contributed to a project to save the area’s bees.
“We were also overwhelmed by the volunteers who came forward to help map affected infrastructure onto a GIS map for the town of Knysna,” said Mgwadlamba.
“Paddy Gordon, [SANParks manager] has expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers and assistance during and post the fires.”
Residents affected by the fires, who wish to get an indigenous tree, can message Nandi Mgwadlamba on the SANParks Garden Route page.
