Assist Circuit Managers to Follow Underperforming Schools
Day three of Data Driven Districts Dashboard is underway at the Education Leadership Institute in East London, where all Circuit Managers are fully hands on, on the navigation of the actual system.
With whispers, chattering, some confusion but overall excitement, circuit managers are learning how to use all the tools on the Dashboard. Primarily, the Dashboard gives circuit summaries of key areas at schools e.g. Learner Attendance, Educator Attendance, Task Coverage, Promotion of Grade R-11 learners, Matric pass rate and Report marks pass rate.
The Dashboard is a great intervention facility that will enable circuit managers to follow up on schools that are underperforming in any of the key areas and what the linkages are e.g. Educators attendance has a direct impact on task coverage etc. This is also a tool that can be used to acknowledge schools that are performing well. The Dashboard is a wealth of knowledge that will be hugely beneficial to the Eastern Cape if used correctly.
Derrick Nyati, a circuit manager from OR Thambo Coastal, former Libode District, which takes care of 30 schools says’ “Scarcity of Maths and Science teachers in my circuit is a challenge, and in most cases, we are using foreign nationals, so it will be very interesting to see how this will affect our results in my circuit through the Dashboard.” Nyati continued by saying, “The DDD Dashboard training is informative and will give us more knowledge about the schools we take care of.”
All circuit managers are well on their way to fully understanding the dashboard, however it will take a good few practices before being experts, however, if any circuit managers are having difficulties navigating the system, short videos will be uploaded on ECDoE Facebook page for your convenience.
PB Banana "Nice" Cream With Strawbery Sacue
Bryan Gardner; Food Styling: Anna Hampton, Prop Styling: Mindi Shapiro
Ingredients
- 6 medium-size ripe bananas (about 2 1/4 lb.)
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh strawberries, trimmed
- 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown rice syrup
- 3/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/3 cup canned coconut milk
- 3 tablespoons creamy natural peanut butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons finely chopped roasted peanuts
Preparation
1. Peel bananas and cut into 3/4-inch-thick slices. Place in a single layer on a baking sheet; freeze until solid, 2 to 3 hours.
2. Finely chop 1/2 pound of the strawberries. Combine chopped strawberries, sugar, syrup, and 1/4 teaspoon of the salt in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until strawberries become syrupy, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Coarsely chop remaining 1 pound strawberries. Stir into cooked strawberry mixture.
3. Process coconut milk, frozen bananas, peanut butter, vanilla, and remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt in a high-powered blender or food processor on high until very creamy, stopping to scrape down sides and press bananas into blade as necessary. Serve banana mixture immediately for a soft-serve consistency, or store in an airtight container in freezer for a firmer texture. Serve with strawberry sauce and chopped peanuts.

News24.com | KZN treasury probing R6.9bn fraud
Pietermaritzburg – KwaZulu-Natal’s treasury is investigating fraud and corruption amounting to R6.9bn, finance MEC Belinda Scott told a sitting of the legislature on Wednesday.
The treasury’s forensic investigation unit and Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) were probing the alleged crimes, which date from 2009, she said while tabling treasury’s budget.
“Most of the allegations received and investigated are serious and complex in nature. The forensic investigation unit will continue to work hand-in-hand with the law enforcement agencies,” she told MPLs.
She said a number of departments had made arrests and taken disciplinary action against employees suspected of wrongdoing. She cited the recent AFU preservation order for R546m granted against a former transport department official as an example of efforts to stop corruption.
She conceded that a bleak economic outlook, exacerbated by the recent downgrading of South Africa’s debt to junk status posed big problems. Treasury would continue applying austerity measures.
“The cost-cutting measures remain in place as we still cannot afford lavish events and expenditure items that are not directed at service delivery for our people.”
She urged senior officials, especially accounting officers, to play their part in saving public funds.
Part of the R607.8m budget would go towards helping municipalities manage their finances, monitoring infrastructure spending in departments, and helping departments achieve clean audits.
