A concern specialising in international imports and exports is seeking a Food Safety and Compliance Officer to join their team.

Reporting to : Operations Director
Job requirements :
Minimum qualification and experience :
– Matric
– National Diploma (Environmental Health / Food Technology / Food Science)
– Knowledge of the OHS Act
– 3 Years work experience in a related field
– Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office & Excel
– Knowledge of the food safety standard such as HACCP / ISO22000
– Auditing practices (internal / supplier)
Soft Skills:
– High attention to detail

– Ability to take instruction
– Must be organised and methodical

Duties :
– Coordinates and leads the incident investigations for all plant and customer-related incidents, ensures that root causes are identified and corrected to prevent recurrence.
– Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
– Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.
– Establish a structured food safety training programme throughout the company. With the assistance of external food safety consultants.
– Conduct annual internal GMP, PRP and policy training to the relevant staff members.
– Chair quarterly food safety meetings with food safety team and management. Ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines.
– Implements efficient document control to ensure that only valid documents are utilized across the whole organization.
– Ensure that all applicable occupational hygiene surveys are conducted to safeguard the safety and health of all employees.
– Schedules the yearly medical surveillance for employees in liaison with the appointed medical services provided
– Sources appropriate PPE in line with identified hazards and risks to mitigate the effects of the hazards on the well-being of employees.
– Implement and update of Food Safety Management system (ISO 22000), as per food safety appointment letter
– Liaise with suppliers, insurers and government departments – Assist with third party audits (PRRS, NRCS, Food Safety, PPECB, DAFF, AFS)
– Assist with state vet product sampling
