Roles and responsibilities
The incumbent, reporting to the Registrar, must be a dynamic, organised person with a proven Management background as well as experience in Administration. The ideal candidate will have at least a graduate degree and relevant experience ideally in the entertainment management industry, but not necessary.
The specific roles and responsibilities include:
Liaise regularly with students and act as a student mentor.
Respond to a range of student enquiries by phone, email, and in person at the campus.
Participate in various aspects of orientation preparation.
Be knowledgeable and current on all Student policies.
Student records and archives
Student development
Statutory compliance
Bursary requirements and submissions
AFDA training committee participation
Minute-taking secretarial duties for all appropriate meetings
Liaison with all appropriate departments.
Student transfers, withdrawls and deferments
Entrance processes and facilitation
Communication with students and parents
Student Disciplinary Processes
Student Enrolment and Access records

Background
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC”) is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
MRU (MatCH Research Unit) is a division of the Wits Health Consortium under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of the Witwatersrand. We are committed to supporting the millennium development goals aimed at gender equity, maternal and child health and combatting HIV. Our work focuses on sexual and reproductive health with research and we conduct clinical, behavioural, operations and implementation science research and support health systems strengthening including capacity building and technical support.
Main Purpose of the Job
To provide best practice data collection, clinical assessments, comprehensive counselling and management, collection and processing of specimens and care according to protocols and to provide HIV testing
To screen and enrol participants into the study, and to conduct on-going follow-up based on the research protocols
Location
Commercial City Site, Durban
Key Performance Areas
• Participant recruitment, consenting, enrolment and counselling according to protocol
• Obtain medical history and perform physical examinations and STI/RTI assessments
• Perform HIV and pregnancy testing and advise participant of results
• Collect blood and other specimens for testing as per protocol
• Prepare study related blood samples for temporary storage and collection by Laboratory Company
• Prepare, run, and record laboratory tests/ procedures according to the lab and/or study protocol
• Monitor and controls stock levels applicable to the study within the laboratory
• Perform regular equipment maintenance
• Collect, record and maintain data and study documentation according to ALCOA principles
• Transcribe all source document data into CRFs and Quality control CRFs and other study documents
• Assist the Project Manager in the control and ordering of consumable stock
• Report writing, administration and training
Required minimum education and training
Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery
Driver’s licence
Professional body registration
Registration with South African Nursing Council
Minimum work experience
3 years nursing experience in the fields of maternal care, sexual reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections
Drawing and preparing blood samples
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Research and Laboratory experience is preferable
Diploma in Primary Health Care or similar in preferable
GCP Certification
Good administrative skills together with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Good communication (be fluent in Zulu and English) and organisational skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Laboratory experience is preferable, but not essential
