Job description
Over the last 13 years, Rhino Africa has been repeatedly recognized as “Africa’s leading luxury safari company”. To ensure exclusive access for our tour operations and to become involved in one more step of our clients’ experiences, in 2010 Rhino Africa launched a specialized property division. Starting with the award winning luxury boutique hotel, MannaBay, we have begun creating luxurious properties across the continent’s key destinations. Having conquered the Cape, Rhino Africa is proud to announce the launch of our brand new development, Silvan Safari, opening in the Sabi Sands region in November 2017.
Silvan Safari Lodge is conceptualized to redefine the notion of luxury safari, by providing guests with exclusive access to an authentic African bush experience paired with exceptional service. From waking to the resounding roar of the lion as the spectacular African sun rises over the midlands, to dipping in the crystal safari pool, champagne in hand, as the silhouetted landscape disappears with the sunset; Silvan Safari pushes the boundaries on an all-inclusive escape. Surrounded by lush vegetation on the outskirts of the Kruger National Park, Silvan Safari will boast six aesthetically pleasing modern suites each equipped with a private plunge pool. The main lodge, suspended in the indigenous treetops, provides majestic panoramic views of the Manyeleti River. The lodge will also host its very own spa, encapsulating the epitome of a luxurious safari experience.
Now, Silvan Safari Lodge is searching for a well-groomed, articulate and friendly general assistant with a bubbly nature and a commitment to service excellence. This multi-functional position provides the ideal candidate with the opportunity to grow within the position, expand their skills and gain experience with duty management, guest relations, boutique management, as well as reservations. The core function of this dynamic role is to offer an excellent guest experience and maintain intricately personalized & professional service, whilst ensuring that sales targets are met. Ultimately, the General Assistant plays a direct role in maintaining the highest service standards within the lodge, thus strong communication skills, confidence and a positive and welcoming attitude is key.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to
- Receiving and hosting guests
- Maintaining the guest database to achieve service excellence and communicating with all team members to ensure all information is collated and distributed
- Conducting morning meetings, as required, in the absence of a manager
- Checking rooms before guest arrivals and spot checking the villas during the day and evenings
- Ensuring staff are keeping front of house, back of house, guest areas and service areas of Silvan Safari Lodge clean, organised and maintained
- Communicating with staff in the front of house, back of house, kitchen and the guides to ensure that guest needs are met and that Silvan Safari Lodge runs smoothly
- Assisting with admin tasks daily, weekly and at month end to ensure efficient handovers and month end functions take place
- Providing sales assistance to guests with charm
- Styling the boutique and ensuring displays are kept clean, neat and functional
- Controlling stock and overseeing cleanliness & maintenance
- Assisting in setting up all areas for special events and occasions
- Reporting any issues to management

Requirements
The ideal candidate would possess
- Experience with reception duties in a guest relations environment
- Exposure to sales, involving learning about and promoting products
- A Code 8 drivers licence
- Strong empathic, communication and conflict resolution skills
- An aptitude for management
- A proficiency for written and verbal communication in English
- A conscientious approach to maintaining a neat and organised workspace
- Computer literacy
- Knowledge of food preparation and the terminology of food
- A service orientated approach with a flexible, positive attitude to guests’ requests
- A sense of style, creativity and meticulous attention to detail, combined with a passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences
- An understanding of the etiquette involved in hosting and communicating appropriately with guests of different cultures
- The self-motivation to work individually and collaboratively
- A passion for service excellence and willingness to grow in this area

- Preference will be given to candidates able to start by the 1st of November 2017
- Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged South African candidates
- Silvan Safari Lodge is located in Mpumalanga and applicants will be required to relocate at their own expense
