Responsible for telling stories using video and still photography, video and audio editing, web design, graphic arts and animation, scriptwriting and interactive media. Advise reporters and editors about how to incorporate multimedia elements into their stories and generate original content themselves. Manage the production process (generating ideas, meeting budgets and deadlines) for multimedia projects.
Key outputs/accountabilities
Conceptualise and brief in infographics
Suggest best digital treatments for feature stories
Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates interest and buzz
Prepare concepts and scripts for multimedia pieces
Research and develop story ideas and prepare final story proposals for approval
Develop production plan and schedule for assigned projects
Coordinate with Reporters and Editors for story development
Cooperate with Directors and Editors for production and display
Apply visual storytelling skills to develop multimedia pieces
Develop storyboards, scripts, and schematics based on project objectives
Monitor and manage multimedia project activities from start to finish
Ensure that assigned projects meet milestones, budgetary constraints and editorial standards
Analyze resource requirements and equipment needs for production
Pitch video ideas about original stories
Create several video packages from material supplied by EWN reporters and users on a daily basis
Load and publish video reports from EWN’s agency partners
Keep abreast with major stories in the general news space
Maintain a good contact base with the ability to arrange interviews
Create promotional and informative images with text for use on EWN’s digital and social platforms
Film and edit multimedia packages
Involved in the process of effectively linking and tagging videos to articles on the EWN website as well as social network sites, including Twitter and Facebook
Take photos of newsmakers and news events
Source the necessary visual material for the EWN website
Manage and monitor picture agency feeds
Record and edit video footage to create audio-visual content
Package multimedia content
File stories for radio news bulletins when required
Ability to use social media to disseminate news content
Stay updated with latest media technique, web trends and production technologies.
