Librarian: Research Impact and Research Commons

The successful incumbent will be mainly responsible for operational efficiency and service delivery in the Carnegie Research Commons.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4.30pm.
Duties:
- Providing a high-quality service delivery to clients of the Research Commons (master’s and doctoral students as well as researchers at the university)
- Supporting clients with IT-related enquiries, the video conferencing facility, plagiarism, and copyright
- Developing training material and presenting training opportunities which form part of the postgraduate training programme
- Recruitment, training, and supervision of student assistants working in the Research Commons
- Marketing of services, social events, and other training opportunities that are offered to clients in the Research Commons through different media such as brochures, social media and webpages
- Responsible for the physical facilities in the Research Commons, including IT equipment, software, furniture, and other equipment
- Information resources management (evaluating and ordering of material for the reference collection of the Research Commons)
- Responsible for the overall administration, usage statistics and day-to-day maintenance of the Research Commons
- Assistance with tasks related to bibliometric services and unique author identification
- Contributing to library committees and forums on request of senior management
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in library and information science or an equivalent qualification
- Minimum three to five years’ experience within an academic or research library environment
- Knowledge of and experience in research evaluation and unique author identifier systems
- Knowledge of and experience in the use of new technologies in the research environment
- Knowledge of plagiarism, copyright, and the structure of theses and dissertations
- Advanced knowledge of and experience in reference management and software programmes such as RefWorks, Mendeley, EndNote, and Zotero
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good training and presentation skills

- Knowledge of changing trends and best practices regarding research support in academic libraries
- Excellent interpersonal relations
- Advanced experience in the use of MS Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent administrative skills
- Active professional involvement in relevant interest groups and organisations, such as LIASA
