Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a digital printing expert at our factory in Kew.
The purpose of the Digital Printing expert is to act as advisor in terms of optimal machine efficiency, use of raw materials, purchasing or refurbishing machinery and advise on the optimal process to use in terms of production.
Continuous improvement
- Analyse production data in display and promotional gifts areas and identify lower performing machines
- Conduct root cause analyse to identify the barriers to production and develop and implement SOPs based on machine usage that will improve overall productivity, quality and reduce the amount of time spend in production
- Advise on production standards and turnaround times and assist department to achieve optimal productivity
- Provide training to employees on how to best use the machines and how to work more effectively
Industry Benchmarking
- Conduct site visits, industry conventions and research to keep abreast of latest technological trends
- Provide feedback in terms of how current machinery can be used more effectively and efficiently, what raw materials could be considered to improve productivity and quality and advise on acquisitions of machinery
New product development projects
- Receive brief from product development department and establish printing and product requirements in terms of production to meet the required standards
- Advise on factory’s capability to meet the requirement or provide a solution in terms of what will be required to meet this standard
Sourcing of raw materials and substrates
- Identify and select most appropriate options for binding, inks, paper, varnishes, substrates and special printing processes
- Selecting and negotiating with vendors to agree on the best price, quality and turnaround times
Print estimation
- Writing effective creative briefs and print specs that reflect client goals, printing requirements, scheduling, and budget constraints
- Sending requests for estimates to printers and follow up
- Evaluate samples and approve quality before delivery to the client
Quality improvement
- Evaluate quality investigation reports and identify which operating processes needs to be changed or implemented in order to mitigate the risk

Requirements
Qualification
- Diploma in printing management (desirable)
- Six Sigma green belt (desirable)
- Diploma in fine art/design (desirable)
Knowledge
- Technical and Mechanical knowledge of digital printing and sublimation machines
- Digital printing processes
- Substrates and materials to print on
- Pantone colours
- Different printing inks
Experience
- Five to eight years’ experience in digital printing industry — preferably from the signage industry
- Three to five years’ experience as a small business owner of a printing company (desirable)
Skills
- Verbal and numeric comprehension
- Verification skills
- Researching and benchmarking
- Ability to train other people
- Ability to create SOPs that are aligned with best practice
