eNCA | ANC MP puts ‘neck on the block’ over state looting
JOHANNESBURG – ANC MP Zukile Luyenge has emphatically denied allegations that political parties are purposefully looting state resources.
Luyenge is a member of the parliamentary portfolio committee on Public Enterprises, which is investigating claims of state capture, with a session in Parliament on Tuesday.
The Public Affairs Research Institute told the committee that corruption at parastatals appears to be part of a political project.
“What you see from this turn away from the constitution and a sense that the constitution is an obstacle to radical economic transformation and so is the law, it creates a general environment for illegality and growing criminalisation. And what you start seeing from that period on is a growing illegality in which state-owned enterprises are behaving,” the institute’s executive director, Ivor Chipkin, said.
