KWAZULU-NATAL – KwaZulu-Natal police insist a top SACP official who was arrested for carrying a firearm has failed to produce his firearm license.
The man, who is also a senior ANC official, was arrested on Saturday in Umzimkhulu for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The Communist Party’s Zoliswa Nyinde says colleagues later tried to present the document at a police station, but officials allegedly told them Luthuli House had ordered that he be kept in custody.
Police refute this.
The suspect is expected to appear on Monday in the Umzimkhulu Magistrates court.
Since 2009, 24 councillors have been killed in the province, in what is believed to be politically-motivated killings.
