RUSTENBURG – The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is blaming corruption for the healthcare crisis in the North West.

Premier Supra Mahumapelo is allegedly implicated in a number of the province’s public health ills and has come under pressure to resign.

Staff in the province are alleging that health services have deteriorated under his administration.

“The leadership of government must realise that they are public servants and they are supposed to serve us as citizens. Due to their own ways of wanting to receive something at the back, that’s what’s creating the problem “, Denosa President Simon Hlungwani said.

Cabinet on 26 April placed the North West Health Department under administration after staff went on strike for over a month.

A number of hospitals and clinics were forced to shut down after protests earlier in the month.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) subsequently deployed medical practitioners to the province.
