JOHANNESBURG – Former finance minister, Pravin Gordhan, says KPMG’s apology is too little, too late.
KPMG South Africa insists there was no political motivation behind its report on the controversial Sars intelligence unit.
The auditing firm has made an about-turn on its 2016 report, which was seen as key to Gordhan’s sacking.
The firm says some of its findings regarding the intelligence unit were incorrectly interpreted.
“One can sort of half welcome the statement but it falls short when so many honest employees have been cast aside and went through whole lot of trauma and for which KPMG says we don’t take responsibility,” says Gordhan.
He says these reports were used to clean up the pattern of state capture where you deploy your people, clean out the good guys after accusing them.
