eNCA | Police arrest high-ranking politician with unlicensed firearm
KWAZULU-NATAL – A high-ranking politician has been arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in uMzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police found the weapon during a search at a roadblock on Saturday afternoon.
His arrest comes after police vowed to intensify their fight against political killings in the province.
Twenty four council members have been killed in the province since 2009.
The Moerane Commission of Inquiry has been investigating the killings.
The ANC spokesperson in KZN says they’re deeply concerned.
“It does worry us a lot because when you are in a position of leadership there are expectation,” says Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC, Spokesperson KZN.
