Global financial business is building an R&D and product development team in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. This team is specifically tasked with building value-added products that the business can sell onto multinationals with the aim of combating the disruptive tech industry.
Your role will be to:
Lead thought and delivery of product
Conceptualise (team based), architect and deliver IOS based product
Design and code said product
Lead a team of three to five devs technically
Requirements
Minimum 10 years’ commercial coding experience
Advanced knowledge of Native Apple development – Obj C through Swift
Some leadership experience necessary
Architecture and design experience of apps essential
Useful knowledge to have:
Previous experience building transactional products
Objective C as well as Swift experience
Cross-platform coding experience in your past – C#, Java/JEE through MEAN stack – not essential, the role is core IOS based
Any Android/J2ME experience
Previous experience building business value added products
Some knowledge and appreciation of UI/UX (Browser) – not essential at all (they have plenty of web devs)
Good knowledge of application security

Seven employees at the Khayelitsha Drivers Licence Testing Centre in Cape Town were arrested on Wednesday morning for alleged fraud and corruption, the Western Cape Hawks said.
Captain Philani Nkwalase said the employees allegedly asked for bribes in exchange for learner’s and driver’s licences.
“People would go and apply there because… you would get through quite easily and end up with your card without putting any effort in, as long as you pay your way through,” he said.
The seven people – a male security guard and six female driver’s licence examiners – allegedly committed the crimes between January 2015 and October 2018.
They are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
“No less than 34 suspects, including nine examiners, have so far been apprehended in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces to address the fraudulent issuing of roadworthy certificates. These arrests sparked further investigations which linked to the arrests of the seven suspects today (Wednesday),” said Nkwalase.
Cape Town safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith thanked the Hawks for their lengthy investigation and said the City had a zero-tolerance approach to staff misconduct.
“Internal disciplinary processes will run parallel to the criminal process. The staff members will be served with pre-suspension notices once they have appeared in court,” he said.
Meanwhile, the City’s safety and security director Richard Bosman, assured Khayelitsha residents that the testing centre would not close down.
He said staff were transferred from other centres and that the Khayelitsha centre would be fully operational again from Thursday.

Former Springbok hooker Naka Drotské’s condition seems to have worsened to critical, his brother, Tinus, and cousin, Steven Drotské, wrote on their Facebook pages at around 13:00 on Wednesday.
“Please pray for Naka Drotske, he is fighting for his life, in critical condition in ICU. I truly believe our Heavenly Father has got some bigger plans for him and his future,” Drotské’s brother wrote.
Drotske, 47, underwent two successful operations since a shooting incident at his brother’s smallholding outside Pretoria late last month. He was shot in the chest, abdomen and arm.
Drotske won 26 Test caps between 1993 and 1999 and played one game during South Africa’s home Rugby World Cup victory in 1995. He also played for London Irish from 2001-2003.
After retiring he coached Super Rugby side the Cheetahs before quitting rugby in 2015 to pursue business interests.
Cape Town – South African star Cameron van der Burgh has stunned the field in claiming gold in the men’s 100m breaststroke at the 14th FINA World Swimming short course Championship in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday.
Van der Burgh, swimming out of Lane 7, finished in a time of 56.01 to take victory ahead of Belarus’ Ilya Shymanovich (56.10) and Japan’s Yasuhiro Koseki (56.13).
Van der Burgh’s time was a new Championship record, breaking the 56.29 mark set by Brazil’s Felipe França da Silva in Doha in 2014.
The victory was something of a surprise given that Van der Burgh was only ninth-fastest in the heats and sixth-quickest in the semi-finals.
Van der Burgh still holds the world record in the event (55.61), which he posted in Berlin a full nine years ago.
