The Today cohost has been on the high-fat, low-carb diet for seven weeks now, but says she hasn’t lost a pound.
“It’s not even doing anything,” Guthrie, 46, said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I haven’t lost anything! I haven’t lost a thing. But you know, I’ve eaten a lot of bacon and I’ve liked it.”
Guthrie appeared on the show with her cohost Hoda Kotb and Joy Bauer, Today‘s health and nutrition expert. And Bauer expressed her displeasure with Guthrie’s keto experiment.
“Like Savannah knows, I am dreaming of her picking up the phone to call me to say, ‘I’m done! Help me transition,’ ” Bauer said. “[The keto diet is] very, very difficult, but as a jumpstart it’s fine. I would say maybe [do it for] a week, like one to two weeks.”
The cookbook author explained that she thinks the keto diet lacks essential nutrients.
“It’s very very high fat, it’s super high fat, and it’s ridiculously low in protein and carbs,” Bauer said. “So it’s very difficult to stick with, and really, it makes me sad to think that a diet would omit so many fruits and vegetables.”
Guthrie even had to pass on one of Bauer’s “Mazel Margaritas” because it had watermelon.
“Watermelon’s a no,” the mom of two said, though she did put limes in her tequila soda because she “lives in the real world.”
“The toughest part is not eating bread,” he said. “Last weekend I was in Paris to drop my daughter off at school for her sophomore year. I think it’s the first time in 35 years going to Paris, but I did not have any croissant or any bread.”
Ribbon cucumber with a vegetable peeler; discard core and tough outer skin. Toss ribbons in a bowl with coleslaw mix, onion slices, vinegar, chopped pickled ginger, ginger juice, and sesame oil to coat. Let stand 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, for flavors to combine.

Cut lavash into 4 equal pieces, and line each with one-fourth of sliced chicken; top with one-fourth of salad mixture. Bring sides of lavash together, and spear with wooden picks. Serve.

The reform of the United Nations, and particularly its Security Council, is a priority if we are to give full effect to the values and principles enshrined in the UN Charter, President Cyril Ramaphosa said in his debut address to the General Assembly of the body in New York on Monday.
South Africa would like to see the Security Council increased to 15 members and for Africa to have two permanent members on the council since most conflicts happen on the African continent.
“Institutions like the United Nations, World Bank, IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the WTO (World Trade Organization) need to be reshaped and enhanced so that they may more effectively meet the challenges of the contemporary world and better serve the interests of the poor and marginalised,” Ramaphosa added.
“The call to leave no one behind requires that we strengthen the institutions of global governance and make them more responsive to the needs of young people, particularly in the developing world.
“It is within our hands, as the leaders assembled here today, to forge a more representative, equal and fair United Nations that is empowered and equipped to lead the struggle to end poverty, unemployment and inequality in the world.”
He said to the poor, vulnerable and marginalised that the UN was a beacon of promise in a landscape of doubt.
“To billions across the world, the UN is the most powerful instrument we possess to achieve a more equal, more humane and more inclusive world.”
In his speech, Ramaphosa often referred to former president Nelson Mandela.
“We are a young world, where more than half the global population is under the age of 30 years. This is even more pronounced on our continent, Africa, where two-thirds of its people were not yet born when Nelson Mandela was released from prison,” he said. “We are living in the Age of Youth. This places a responsibility on us, as leaders, not only to put the interests of young people at the centre of our efforts, but to empower women and young people to be more prominent in directing the course of global affairs.”
Ramaphosa said more should be done to tackle diseases such as Aids, tuberculosis, malaria, diabetes and cancer.
He informed world leaders about South Africa’s plans to fix the economy, land reform plans and how to overcome the legacy of colonialism and apartheid. He also referred to the country’s foreign policy.
“We are determined through our international relations to be a force for progress and peace and global equality and will continue to advance the interests of the African continent and the Global South.”
Earlier on Monday, at a packed small auditorium at the Council on Foreign Relations’ Upper East Side headquarters, Ramaphosa championed free trade, multilateralism and South Africa’s resilience.

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old in a maternity ward in Mthatha – a day after she had given birth, police said on Tuesday.
Captain Dineo Koena said the 30-year-old man posed as a doctor who was visiting the teen for a post-natal check up on Tuesday morning. She had given birth on Monday.
“It is further alleged that [he] ordered her to undress so as to do [a] thorough checkup and afterwards raped her in her maternity ward,” said Koena.
Police were alerted and arrested a man at the hospital at about 12:30.
He is to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Eastern Cape health department spokesperson Lwandile Sicwetsha said the incident did not take place at a public hospital.
Comment from the hospital was not immediately available.
