The blonde beauty recently revealed that heading back to the gym after giving birth to her second baby helped her shed 61 pounds. One move she relied on: the Single-Arm Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift. “With this movement, you’re balancing on one leg, causing your hip to have to stabilize, as well as working the back, glutes, hamstrings, and core,” says Lively’s trainer, Don Saladino, owner of Drive 495 in New York City.
Stand tall with feet together and a dumbbell or kettlebell in right hand at thigh and left arm out to side for balance. Hinge at hips, lowering torso until almost parallel to floor as you lift right leg behind you, toes facing down. The weight should travel straight down in front of right leg. Return to start and repeat. Aim for 2–3 sets of 8–10 reps per leg, three times a week.

“After my step dad passed away I gained 70 lbs. in three months,” Van Ness, 31, wrote on Instagram. “I didn’t like how I felt or looked, it’s so important for me to look back and tell that man from five years ago he was lovely and gorge. I can celebrate where I am now as long as I send love to the ‘me’s’ along the way.”
Van Ness told InStyle that he was a chubby kid until high school, when he lost weight. But after his stepdad died of bladder cancer in 2012, he gained 70 lbs. in just three months.
“I just could not stop eating, and that took me, like, two years to lose that weight,” he said. “My fitness journey now has really been from that really rapid weight gain. I was a chubby kid who got made fun of a lot, and I got fit in high school and I stayed fit in my 20s, until my dad died. I went from being pretty fit to 230 lbs., which isn’t, like, the biggest for being 6-feet-tall, but I had been 165 lbs. just three months prior. That taught me a lot about how people treat you differently when you’re fit and when you’re bigger.”
Van Ness initially started hitting the gym to lose those 70 lbs. for other people, but now he works out for himself.
“There was a time when I was like, ‘Oh my god, I have to lose this weight because if I don’t, then who’s gonna date me?’ ” he said. “[Now], my working out is about me. It wasn’t always like that, but that’s where it’s landed. It’s something that I choose to share because I want to help people feel better and I found that for me, just sharing myself seems to be helping.”
And he adds that while unfair female body standards happen to be a hot topic right now, they’re just as bad for men.
“I think that the ideal of men’s physiques in general, gay or straight, is one of the most under-talked-about things ever,” he said. “Ninety-five percent of these bodies that we’re seeing, that we’re striving so hard to look like, are genetically engineered, like, let’s be very clear. It’s steroids. It’s just important for people that are trying to do the best with what they have to be honest about it.”
Van Ness said he used to care more about looking like the men he sees in ads, but now he’s happy with his body.
“I love how I look right now,” he said. “If I were to do steroids, it would be so that other people would see me the way that I already see myself. And no! F— that. No. No, thank you.”
Your pizza party is going to be even better with this Greek-Style Pizza recipe. This meatless dish is great for vegetarians, and requires little prep time.
Spinach, one of the main pizza toppings, is loaded with iron and also contains antioxidants, which can help keep your skin looking bright. Olives contain vitamin E and provide healthy fats to your meal. And the tomato sauce counts as one serving of vegetables.
To prepare this pizza, place a thin layer of pizza crust onto a baking sheet and spread on your tomato sauce. Top with the spinach, olives, feta cheese and some pepper, and bake for 15 minutes before digging in.
Recipe Is:
How to Make It
Preheat oven to 425°. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add spinach; sauté 3 minutes or until lightly wilted. Place pizza crust on a baking sheet. Spread sauce over pizza crust, leaving a 1/2-inch border; top with baby spinach, feta cheese, pepper, and olives. Bake at 425° for 15 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
Dr Makhosi Khoza, who resigned from the ANC last year and formed her own political party, the African Democratic Change (ADeC), has announced she is retiring from politics.
Khoza – a vocal opponent of former president Jacob Zuma – had been removed as chairperson of the public service and administration portfolio committee last year after some ANC MPs in her committee campaigned against her continued leadership.
She subsequently resigned from the ANC after 35 years and launched ADeC in December last year.
Last month, an intense battle for the control of Khoza’s new party came to light, with Thokozani Msomi, who claimed to be the party’s deputy president, saying that Khoza had been suspended for bringing the party into disrepute.
Msoni’s statement said the decision to suspend Khoza came following a communication breakdown, and she would be facing a disciplinary hearing.
ADeC’s spokesperson Feziwe Ndwayana at the time denied the suspension, saying those behind the call for Khoza to be suspended were not recognised as members of the party.
Khosa has now taken the decision to leave politics altogether for a new opportunity, sharing her resignation letter from ADeC on her Facebook page on Saturday
“I wish to advise ADeC members and its entire leadership that I have taken a well-thought through decision to step down from politics with immediate effect in pursuit and in fulfillment of my deepest passion, conviction and mission in local governance and administration, education and elevation of African languages as those of prestige and prosperity.
“I feel time has come for me to pursue and fulfill my bigger mission in this life as outlined in the opening paragraph above. My bigger mission is beyond the confines of politics and political parties,” she wrote.
Khosa said that a potential opportunity had arisen.
‘Elevation of black African languages’
“I have always wanted to put my post graduate qualifications, especially my doctoral degree in Quality Management Principles and Systems (QMPS) in developmental local governance and extensive experience in local government, into use and in a manner that would deliver maximum positive impact to local citizens.”
She highlighted the plight of the South African education system as a passion, pointing to her research in an isiZulu language mathematical logic series and a dictionary called UZALO.
She said she would be working with her son, Mlando, a computer programmer and computer science student, who had developed an algorithm that is consistent with aBantu languages.
“My son and I have decided to join forces in the elevation of black African languages in South Africa,” she wrote, saying it was the first time since her husband’s death that she would be able to spend weekends with her children.
“It is within this context that I have taken a decision to step down from politics,” she wrote.
“I also hope that ADeC would continue with its Politics Unusual concept, its commitment to the total emancipation of women, loyalty to the South African citizens and ensuring that at all times it is grounded in moral and ethical leadership.
“As the leading founder of ADeC and its director of its Non-Profit Organization (NPO), I therefore resign from both structures and authorize the ADeC National Board under the chairmanship of Moses Mayekiso to liaise with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the other directors of the non-profit organisations to fill the vacant position as a result of my resignation and stepping down from politics.”
