The primary responsibility for the software developer – ICT will be to support and development of .Net applications within the financial service environment.

Outline of main duties and responsibilities

The software developer – ICT will be expected to:

  • Design and develop new systems
  • Support and maintain new and legacy custom developed systems
  • Perform unit and systems testing on enhanced or new systems
  • Liaise with project stakeholders during the project life cycle
  • Assist with implementation of agile systems development life cycle
  • Assist with implementation of best practices and development standards
  • Review and introduce new technologies, in line with the architectural framework
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback regarding project feedback as per agreement with relevant stakeholders

Skills and experience required

Qualifications:

  • BSc Computer Science / Information Systems, BCom Informatics, B-Tech or related IT Qualification
  • MCDP – Visual Studio 2008 / 2010

Other:

  • MCTS – SQL Server
  • MS SharePoint Server 2010/2013
  • Windows Workflow Foundation

Experience:

  • ASP.net and Windows Services Development
  • Design and development of new enterprise systems
  • Estimation of project deliverables
  • Implementation and use of patterns and best practices
  • JavaScript frameworks e.g. AngularJS, jQuery
  • Successful migration of at legacy systems
  • Support and maintenance of existing and legacy custom developed systems
  • Testing and use of automated testing software
  • Understanding of information security best practices and development standards
  • MVC would be a huge plus

Preferable Experience but not required:

  • SharePoint Development
  • Integration between heterogeneous systems
  • In understanding of the investment services industry

22 September 2017 – SARS to proceed with Symington disciplinary hearing

Pretoria, Friday 22 September 2017 – SARS notes and welcomes the Pretoria High Court judgement that has dismissed the case with legal costs on the matter of principal specialist in legal counsel, Vlok Symington.

Mr Symington had applied for a declaratory order and an urgent interdict against a pending disciplinary action.

SARS is of the view that the judgement vindicates the organization’s long held view that the investigation and disciplinary action against Mr Symington was lawful and fair.

Thus SARS will continue with disciplinary action against Mr Symington.

SARS wishes to reiterate that Commissioner Tom Moyane did not lay charges against former Finance Minister Mr Pravin Gordhan and thus victimized Mr Symington for being a political whistle-blower.

This was a blatant misrepresentation of facts and unsubstantiated rumours that perpetuate a negative narrative that blemishes the integrity of SARS.

Please take note that disciplinary procedures against employees are confidential and deemed an internal matter.

SARS is therefore not in a position to comment in detail on the matter.

It is a matter of public record that the alleged ‘hostage incident’ was reported widely and prominently in the media to perpetuate a narrative of Mr Symington’s political victimization.

SARS wishes to appeal to the media to uphold the highest standards of factual, fair and accurate reportage.

Furthermore, SARS is deeply concerned about apparent bias, irresponsible and mischievous attitude to cast aspersions on the character of the organization to perpetuate a negative narrative of an organization that does not uphold the rule of law with proper governance processes.

With this in mind, SARS wishes to assert that the organization remains resolute, focused and single-minded about meeting our revenue collection target for South Africa and wishes the more than 14 500 men and women who are the backbone of the organization for their resilience.

ECDoE wins Learners ID Number Award

The Minister of Department of Basic Education (DBE), Angie Motshekga, awarded the Eastern Cape Department of Education(ECDoE) with the Learners ID Number Award on 19 September 2017.

This award was presented to ECDoE by the Deputy Minister of Education, Enver Surty during the DBE Data Summit 2017.  The Award is in recognition of the first province to make learner ID numbers compulsory and extra effort in ensuring learner ID numbers are captured accurately. 

The Manager for Education Management Information System (EMIS), Mr Riaan Janse Van Rensburg who is responsible for South African School and Administration Management System (SA-SAMS) collected the Award on behalf of the Department.

This Award means that ECDoE is making great strides in improving the credibility of education data.  Reliable and credible data leads to improved education planning, monitoring and support for improved school functionality and quality teaching and learning.  The Data Driven Districts (DDD) system currently used by schools, Circuits, District Offices and Head Office draws data from SA-SAMS.  DDD programme aims to improve learner outcomes by improving the manner in which education data is collected and used by teachers, principals and officials in education to support quality teaching and learning.

ECDoE extends heartfelt gratitude to all the schools, Circuit and District Offices that have contributed to the Department winning this Award.

  

Wedge Salad With Shiitake “Bacon”

How to Make It

Step 1

Make dressing: Whisk together mayonnaise, buttermilk, sour cream, parsley, chives, mustard, salt, pepper, and garlic in a bowl. Cover and chill for 1 hour.

Step 2

Make “bacon” bits: Preheat oven to 375°F. Place mushroom slices, oil, and salt in a bowl; toss to coat. Arrange mushrooms in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake until well browned and beginning to get crisp, about 20 minutes. Let cool completely on baking sheet, about 20 minutes. Coarsely crumble mushrooms.

Step 3

Make salad: Place 1/2 head romaine lettuce on each of 4 plates. Drizzle each with 2 tablespoons dressing; sprinkle evenly with “bacon” bits, tomatoes, and cheese. Refrigerate remaining dressing in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
