Over the last 13 years Rhino Africa has been repeatedly recognized as ‘Africa’s Leading Luxury Safari Company’. To ensure exclusive access for our tour operations and to become involved in one more step of our clients’ experiences, in 2010 Rhino Africa launched a specialised property division. Starting with the award-winning luxury boutique hotel, MannaBay, we have begun creating luxurious properties across the continent’s key destinations. Having conquered the Cape, Rhino Africa is proud to announce the launch of our brand new development, Silvan Safari, opening in the Sabi Sands region in November 2017.

Silvan Safari Lodge is conceptualised to redefine the notion of luxury safari, by providing guests with exclusive access to an authentic African bush experience paired with exceptional service. From waking to the resounding roar of the lion, as the spectacular African sun rises over the midlands, to dipping in the crystal safari pool, champagne in hand, as the silhouetted landscape disappears with the sunset. Silvan Safari pushes the boundaries on an all-inclusive escape. Surrounded by lush vegetation on the outskirts of the Kruger National Park, Silvan Safari will boast six aesthetically pleasing modern suites each equipped with a private plunge pool. The main lodge, suspended in the indigenous treetops, provides majestic panoramic views of the Manyeleti River. The lodge will also host its very own spa, encapsulating the epitome of a luxurious safari experience.

To turn this splendid concept into a reality, we are looking to appoint a lodge manager to oversee the daily operations of Silvan, ensuring that service standards and quality are upheld. Reporting directly to Silvan Safari’s GM and working hand-in-hand with the maintenance manager, the lodge manager will be critical in ensuring that the lodge’s operational team meets its goals of efficiency and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is a born leader with over five years of experience in a leadership role in the luxury hospitality industry. We are looking for a quick-thinking problem-solver with the drive to continuously improve both the guest and the staff experience; a logical individual with the financial prowess to ensure the property runs in a cost effective manner, within agreed budgets. Candidates should possess strong business acumen with excellent interpersonal skills, to act as the point of contact between management, employees and customers.

Specific responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

• Driving the broader goals of the company, in terms of the property, by developing and implementing strategic management plans
• Integrating sustainability throughout operations
• Ensuring ultimate guest relations in the lodge and making certain that personal attention levels are maintained
• Managing and training staff
• Maintaining the highest standards of operations
• Carrying out effective financial management through direct annual property budgeting processes and control of costs thereafter
• Overseeing and coordinating the property’s risk management
• Coordinating annual property capital projects
• Executing effective human resources practices
• Actively participating in the property’s community development programmes
• Representing the property externally

Requirements

The ideal candidate would possess:

• Five+ years of experience in the high-end luxury hospitality industry
• Solid financial acumen
• Excellent management ability and communication skills
• A clear understanding of labour law and disciplinary procedures
• A developmental approach to staff and succession planning
• An understanding of all operational procedures, e.g. housekeeping and maintenance
• A personal commitment to conservation
• The ability to innovate and embrace change
• A mentoring leadership style, promoting learning and development throughout the organization
• A service orientated approach with a flexible, positive attitude to guests’ requests
• A sense of self-motivation, collaboration and adaptability, combined with a passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences

• Preference will be given to candidates able to start by the 1st of October 2017
• Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged South African candidates
• Silvan Safari Lodge is located in Mpumalanga and applicants will be required to relocate at their own expense
