They shared an unbroken partnership of 62 off 41 balls, but that wasn’t enough to spare Monday’s match at Lord’s from becoming a dead rubber.
Ben Stokes overcame a rocky start to score 101 and steer England to a towering 330/6, the second-highest total seen in the 21 ODIs played at this venue.
South Africa’s reply of 328/5 was powered by opener Quinton de Kock’s 98 until he was caught behind off Moeen Ali in the 36th over.
De Kock shared stands of 56 and 96 with Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers, who made 24 and 52.
Then Miller took over in partnerships of 55 with Farhaan Behardien, who laboured to 17 off 25 balls, and Morris, who smashed his 36 not out off 22.
Miller’s unbeaten 71 came off 51 balls, and he hit five fours and two sixes.
Miller and Morris took 13 runs off the penultimate over, which was bowled by Jake Ball.
That left seven to get off the last, but Mark Wood limited the damage to three.
Stokes might have been run out before he had faced a ball, and he was dropped by Amla at slip and wicketkeeper De Kock off the first two deliveries he faced, both of them bowled by Keshav Maharaj.
Things could only get better for Stokes, and they did dramatically: he reached his century off 77 balls with 11 fours and three sixes before being caught at long-off.
The bowler was, deservedly, Maharaj – who also had Alex Hales dropped.
South Africa’s bowlers improved from the first match of the series at Headingley in Leeds on Friday, when England won by 72 runs.
But the standard of the visitors’ fielding crashed – they squandered six chances.
Kagiso Rabada yorked Jason Roy in the fifth over with a delivery timed at 149.8 km/h, and 10 overs later England were 80/3.
Hales was well-held by De Kock standing up to the stumps for medium pacer Dwaine Pretorius, who got a fingertip to Eoin Morgan’s straight drive to run out Joe Root at the non-striker’s end.
Morgan and Stokes wrought the advantage for England with a stand of 95 that was ended in the 33rd over when Rabada dismissed Morgan for 45 with De Kock diving forward to snare a low catch.
Stokes and Jos Butter then put on 77 to strengthen England’s position, and Buttler and Moeen Ali built the momentum with a partnership of 78 that flowed off 40 balls.
Rabada, who took 2/50, was the only bowler to claim more than one wicket but South Africa’s attack showed more discipline and purpose than on Friday.
Pretorius replaced Wayne Parnell, Maharaj came in for Imran Tahir and Farhaan Behardien was preferred to JP Duminy, who had played in all 23 of South Africa’s previous ODIs in a streak that stretched back to February 14 last year.

At 311 lbs. and 5’8″, Brenda Bennett could no longer do some of the things she loved, like being active outdoors. “I remember hiking with my family in June 2014 and I was exhausted and couldn’t do the full hike,” says the Elko, Nevada mom of three. “I was so upset about it. I was really mad at myself. I thought, ‘I can’t be like this anymore.’ ”
Around the same time, her husband Nathan was struggling with his weight. The 6’4″ former college athlete found himself at 405 lbs., despite lifting weights and doing Crossfit. “We weren’t eating healthy at home, so it didn’t translate into weight loss success,” says Brenda.
They decided to start making some lifestyle changes together. “We cut our sugar and started eating more vegetables — raw vegetables in salads and roasted vegetables,” says Brenda. “Whenever I could, I would take out a starch.” The couple also focused on clean eating.
Then came portion control. They tracked all meals and exercise on the app My Fitness Pal. “It helped us rein in the calorie consumption and beef up the exercise and energy we were burning so we could create the deficit necessary for weight loss,” Brenda explains. They also found motivation in social media, first following fitspiration accounts on Instagram and then creating their own — @brengetsfit and @nategetsfit — to share their struggles and successes.
Once they got serious about dropping pounds, it took between 14-18 months for Brenda, 42, and Nathan, 45, to each lose about 130 lbs. naturally. Since then they have managed to keep it off through healthy eating and exercise. “Because of our schedules we don’t get to work out together very often, but we make sure one of us has the time to make it happen six days a week,” says Brenda. “We do have a little friendly competition, but as long as we’re both getting healthier, we’re both winning!”
She credits the joint effort for their success. “It was a big help to cheer each other on and not let the other person run down to the convenience store and cheat with whatever you can get your hands on,” she says, laughing. “We keep each other strong.”
And the Bennetts’ slow-and-steady approach has definitely paid off. “It’s fun to walk by a mirror and do a double take, like, whoa, that’s me!” says Brenda. But the aesthetics are only half of it.
“I love being able to do whatever I want physically, to be able to challenge myself and know that I will be able to do it and get better every single day. It’s so great to have the energy to keep up with teenagers and do all of the fun family stuff together.”
1. Peel, core and quarter apples.
2. In a large saucepan combine apples, water, cinnamon and Truvía® Natural Sweetener.
3. Bring to a boil on high heat, cover and reduce heat to a low simmer for 25-35 minutes or until the apples are completely tender and cooked through.
4. Remove the pot from the heat.
5. Use a potato masher to mash the cooked apples in the pot to make a chunky applesauce. For a smoother applesauce, purée them in a blender. (Do small batches and do not fill the blender bowl more than halfway.)

Johannesburg – A trail of emails between the Gupta family and their employees has blown the lid off how they have managed to do business with government, ingratiate themselves with senior officials, and go so far as to help move President Jacob Zuma and his family to Dubai.
The emails, obtained by City Press this week, also reveal how the Guptas seduced a number of senior state actors in their bid to capture government departments and state-owned entities.

Southampton – The Proteas winning run in ODI Series came to an end at Southampton on Saturday when they went down by two runs to England in the second of three ODIs.
The result gives England a 2-0 series lead with only the final match at Lord’s on Monday still to be played.
The Proteas led throughout the match on comparative run rate, having been set 331 for victory, until the fourth ball of the last over. David Miller and Chris Morris needed 7 off the last over from Mark Wood to clinch victory but only managed 4 runs.
Miller finished unbeaten on 71 (51 balls, 5 fours and 2 sixes) and Morris on 36 (22 balls, 3 fours and 2 sixes) as the pair shared a partnership of 62 for the sixth wicket in 6.3 overs.
It was a much improved Proteas performance from the first match with a well-paced runs chase until the final over.
England’s victory was set up by Ben Stokes who scored his second career international century in this format (101 off 79 balls, 11 fours and 3 sixes) and the renowned finishing power of Jos Buttler (65 not out off 53 balls, 7 fours). But the Proteas were left to rue a number of errors in the field, notably a couple of lives that were given to Stokes before he had put a run on the board.
The Proteas reply was set up by Quinton de Kock (98 off 103 balls, 11 fours) with the main support coming from AB de Villiers (52 off 50 balls, 6 fours) and then the final onslaught by Miller and Morris.
Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the South African attack and there was an excellent debut by Keshav Maharaj – the 120th player to represent the Proteas in this format – whose performance was far better than his figures suggest and was the main sufferer from the errors in the field.
He took the place of Imran Tahir in one of three changes to the South African side as they rotated their squad. Farhaan Behardien played in place of JP Duminy and Dwaine Pretorius took the place of Wayne Parnell.
Morne Morkel is the only squad member still to play and he is expected to play in the final match on Monday.
Teams:
England
Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (captain), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (wkt), Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood, Jake Ball
South Africa
Quinton de Kock (wkt), Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers (captain), Farhaan Behardien, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj
Johannesburg – President Jacob Zuma is fighting for political survival after another motion of no confidence was tabled against him at a meeting of the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) in Pretoria.
At least four sources with direct knowledge of events inside the closed NEC meeting confirmed to News24 that African National Congress policy guru and NEC member Joel Netshitenzhe tabled a motion for Zuma to step down.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, his deputy Joe Phaahla and axed tourism minister Derek Hanekom spoke out in support of Netshitenzhe’s motion.
READ: Does South Africa need a new NEC?
An inside source told News24 Netshitenzhe argued that the case against Zuma had “worsened” since Hanekom’s call in November 2016 for him to go.
“He mentioned all the things we read about in the news: The Cabinet reshuffle, the downgrade [to junk status], the reports on state capture… the litany of problems all linked to him [Zuma].”

Zuma scandals
Netshitenzhe is a former head of the government’s communications department, the GCIS.
The meeting which adjourned on Saturday early evening was expected to continue on Sunday.
Netshitenzhe’s motion came in spite of ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe telling journalists earlier that the motion was not on the agenda.

According to News24 sources, there are long lists of speakers for and against the motion.
In November, a similar motion put forward by Hanekom at the NEC failed. He was supported by several Cabinet ministers.
Those who want Zuma to go fear the party is losing credibility by the many scandals linked to the president.
Zuma’s supporters who have always dominated the NEC have argued the structure does not have constitutional powers to recall Zuma. They have also added that the power is vested in the branches which elected him to the position.
Former president Thabo Mbeki was recalled by the ANC NEC as state president in 2008 after the KwaZulu-Natal High Court ruled he had interfered in the prosecution of Zuma on charges of corruption.
The judgment was later overruled by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
The ANC’s alliance partners have previously supported the motion for Zuma’s removal, citing that it would be dangerous for the ANC to keep him on as president ahead of the policy conference which takes place at the end of June.
An NEC member told News24 it would be irresponsible for the party not to discuss Zuma’s recall, while the SACP’s deputy general secretary Solly Mapaila urged the party to deal with the matter or accept the demise of the 105 year old liberation movement.

LONDON – Arsenal denied Chelsea the double as they beat the Premier League champions 2-1 to win the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons at Wembley on Saturday.
Aaron Ramsey’s 79th-minute header sealed victory for Arsenal, three minutes after Diego Costa’s equaliser had revived Chelsea’s hopes of capping a superb season in style.
Alexis Sanchez’s controversial opener had given Arsenal the early initiative and Arsene Wenger’s side could have been further ahead as they dominated the first-half chances.
Chelsea improved after the break but had to play the final quarter of the match with 10 men after Victor Moses received his second yellow card following a blatant dive in the area.
Arsenal have now won the FA Cup a record 13 times while Wenger is now the most successful manager in the competition’s history having secured the trophy seven times.
