Key accounts:

  • Oversee the ongoing customer relationships with key account customers, the most notable of which being the V&A Waterfront
  • Drive the achievement of revenue targets (new revenue and renewals)
  • Manage the key account manager team which provides rental services (noting that this team is in its very early stages, with significant scope for growth)
  • Ensure accuracy of leasing documentation and reports for key accounts, including timeous delivery
  • Ensure services provided to key account customers deliver on the HouseME value proposition and comply with services agreements at all times
  • Monitor rental industry trends and provide information and insights to key customers

Residential rental services:

  • Own the partnership relationship with key services providers, the most significant of which being the maintenance service provider
  • Oversee quality control of in-person services provided by HouseME (viewings, inspections, key-hand-overs or other rental services carried out by a network of contract staff)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations at all times
  • Make vetting decisions in cases of complicated tenant applications
  • Handle legal disputes, including (but not limited to) disputes regarding early cancellation penalties, maintenance work and deposit pay-outs (with support from the company principal agents)
  • Ensure an excellent level of customer service is maintained at all times
  • Train staff on real estate practices to ensure continuous improvement and performance to targets

Remuneration & location

  • Based in the Cape Town head office (however working from home will be encouraged at the start of the contract)
  • Fixed monthly salary with a monthly performance incentive for performance to targets (not commission-based)

Requirements

Summary of the Role:

Genetics may explain why some women gain weight when using a popular method of birth control, researchers say.

“For years, women have said that birth control causes them to gain weight but many doctors failed to take them seriously,” said lead study author Dr Aaron Lazorwitz. He’s assistant professor of obstetrics/gynaecology and family planning at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, in Aurora.

“Now we have looked at the genetics and found that the way genes interact with some hormones in birth control could help explain why some women gain more weight than others,” Lazorwitz added in a university news release.

The etonogestrel contraceptive implant is inserted under the skin. It contains etonogestrel, a kind of progestin that inhibits ovulation, and is considered among the most effective types of birth control.

Individual genetic variation

For the study, the researchers reviewed the medical records of 276 women who received the implant. They found these women had a median weight gain of about 7lb (3.17kg) over an average of 27 months of use. Nearly three-quarters of the women gained weight.

Further investigation led the researchers to conclude that genetic variants in oestrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) among some of the women were associated with significant weight gain.

On average, women with two copies of the ESR1 rs9340799 variant gained over 30 pounds more while using the contraceptive implant than other women in the study.

Previous research has found links between ESR1 genetic variants and the workings of other types of medications, the study authors noted.

While this study focused on the etonogestrel contraceptive implant, other birth control drugs could have similar interactions with genes that cause weight gain, the researchers said.

Non-hormonal birth control

“It is imperative to better understand how individual genetic variation may influence a woman’s risk of adverse weight gain” while using these medications, Lazorwitz said.

Currently, there is no way to identify who will gain weight when using such medications. Health care providers can provide counselling about potential weight gain or suggest non-hormonal forms of birth control such as copper intrauterine devices (IUDs), the study authors suggested.

“As our understanding of pharmacogenomics in women’s health expands, we can develop individualised counselling that may reduce the incidence of hormone-related adverse effects, improve patient satisfaction, and help prevent future health risks associated with weight gain,” Lazorwitz said.

The study was published recently in the journal Contraception.

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane says it’s important to consider player fitness levels once the PSL returns to action.

The Masandawana boss watched as La Liga in Spain returned to the field over the weekend and noticed that even world class teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona struggled to get through 90 minutes.

“I watched all LaLiga games [on Sunday] and majority of players were struggling after the 60th minute, including Barca and Real Madrid,” said Mosimane on his Twitter page.

The PSL season has been suspended since March, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and players have since been confined to their homes to train on their own.

“[Three] weeks’ minimum to train before we start playing [is needed] and five subs to be allowed in a game. My technical opinion. Let’s learn from practical experiences,” he added.

“After more than two months of rest, it is very rare to have a football team who can play 90 mins of football. Hence, in week three of pre-season training from off-season, we don’t allow our teams to play more than 60 minutes in a game.

“I believe our decision-makers will guide us well.“

  • Mkhwebane has cleared Nomafrench Mbombo on allegations that she received benefits or sponsorships during a special birthday.

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has closed 13 reports, including an investigation into allegations that Western Cape Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo received benefits or sponsorship during a special birthday celebration in 2016.

Mkhwebane delivered her findings into 35 investigations during a briefing in Pretoria on Monday. 

“I concluded that the MEC did not receive any benefit, gift or sponsorship as contemplated in the Executive Ethics Code for or in respect of the function that was held at the Radisson Blue Hotel in Cape Town on 10 September 2016,” Mkhwebane said.

Mkhwebane closed the investigations because some had been found to be unsubstantiated, while others were dealt with in other forums. 

She also closed her investigation into allegations of maladministration and improper conduct in connection with a Master Service Agreement entered into between Eskom and McKinsey Company Incorporated, as well as payments made to Trillian Capital and Partners.

She said the matter had been referred to the state capture inquiry, adding that the High Court had also made a ruling on it. 

Mkhwebane also looked into allegations of improper conduct, abuse of power and/or maladministration during the probe into former acting SARS chief operations Jonas Makwakwa’s financial affairs by the Financial Intelligence Centre and the tax body.

She, however, closed the report after finding that the allegations were unsubstantiated. 

In a separate matter, Mkhwebane had also investigated allegations of corruption, procurement irregularities and maladministration within the Department of Water and Sanitation.

She found that the department had irregularly procured System Application and Product (SAP) licences for itself and the Water Boards.

The complaint was lodged by former secretary general of the EFF Godrich Gardee in 2017, Mkhwebane said.

“Gardee alleged that an anonymous letter was submitted to the EFF in connection with alleged corruption and procurement irregularities within the department, whereby several… 20… allegations were made in relation to the purchasing of the System Application and Product (SAP) licences,” Mkhwebane said.

“According to him, it was alleged that the SAP licences were purchased for both the department and Water Boards. The department had existing licences that could accommodate additional users, but proceeded to procure new ones, and the licences for the Water Boards were procured on their behalf without their consent or needs analysis being conducted.”

Mkhwebane said she had focused her investigation on whether the department had irregularly procured the SAP licences for itself and on behalf of the Water Boards, and found that the allegation was substantiated.

As part of the remedial action, Mkhwebane directed the director-general to “ensure that any future Information and Communication Technology procurement is aligned with the requirements of the Constitution, the State Information Technology Act, the relevant Treasury Regulations and departmental policies”.
