KZN healthcare practitioner tests positive for Covid-19. Denel is making ventilators. Fake news video circulating on social media. Here is a wrap of some of our domestic and international news:
A fake video relating to Covid-19 which has emerged, claiming testing kits are possibly contaminated, has been condemned by the Eastern Cape Department of Health.
The Hibiscus Hospital in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, has taken extra precautions against Covid-19 after one of its healthcare practitioners tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
State-owned South African arms firm Denel says it is switching from making weapons to manufacturing medical ventilators that can save lives.
South African cellphone operators are now required to send two public-service announcements a day on the novel coronavirus disaster to all their customers.

SA Rugby could face tough times. Five game parks in Mpumalanga have been prepared for Covid-19 patients. Here is a wrap of some of our domestic news:
As South Africa enters Day 11 of the countrywide lockdown, the latest available numbers show we have 11 deaths with 1 655 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
As a precautionary measure to ensure there will be enough isolation areas to treat patients with Covid-19 in Mpumalanga, five secluded rest camps in provincial game parks have been prepared for a possible bigger onslaught.
South Africa needs to test 12 times more people per day for the new coronavirus than it currently does. Our testing plan can only do this if we use a wider range of tests – including controversial ones.
SA Rugby is reportedly set to lose millions if its players are not back on the training field by June.
Liverpool were forced to apologise as the Premier League club ditched their controversial plan to furlough non-playing staff during the coronavirus on Monday, while FIFA urged players and clubs to reach agreement over wage reductions.
Liverpool faced stinging criticism from fans and former players after revealing over the weekend that they wanted to use the UK government’s furlough scheme.
Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s US-based owners, wanted to put around 200 staff on enforced leave during the pandemic while the government paid 80 percent of their wages.
Fellow top-flight teams Tottenham, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Norwich have already furloughed staff, but it was table-toppers Liverpool – with pre-tax profits of £42 million for the 2018-19 season – who came in for the most criticism, in part due to their reputation as a club with a strong bond to the working-class community on Merseyside.
The fierce backlash sparked a sudden climbdown as Liverpool chief executive Peter Moore wrote an open letter to supporters announcing they would no longer pursue the furlough route.
“We have consulted with a range of key stakeholders as part of a process aimed at achieving the best possible outcome for all concerned,” Moore said.
“We have opted to find alternative means despite our eligibility to apply for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
“We believe we came to the wrong conclusion last week to announce that we intended to apply to the Coronavirus Retention Scheme and furlough staff due to the suspension of the Premier League football calendar, and are truly sorry for that.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher tweeted: “Well done @PeterMooreLFC @LFC a big mistake initially & thankfully now it’s been put right.”
With the Premier League postponed indefinitely because of the virus, Manchester City, bankrolled by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour, said they would not be using the government’s job retention scheme, with Manchester United set to follow their example.
Liverpool’s U-turn came as England’s top-flight teams, among the richest in the world, were under increasing scrutiny, with government ministers warning bosses and players they should “think carefully” over their next moves.
The highest-paid Premier League players such as Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne
FIFA on Monday urged clubs and players to reach agreement on taking wage reductions in order to protect clubs who are suffering financial damage, sources at world football’s governing body said.
It also recommended that players’ contracts be extended until the end of the interrupted football seasons and that the transfer window should not open until that time.
The call from FIFA comes as Premier League clubs are locked in talks with players and their representatives about taking pay cuts.
The English top flight is lagging behind other European leagues.
In Spain, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid players have agreed to pay cuts of 70 percent.
Many politicians have urged action from the Premier League and in a poll conducted by British polling company YouGov last week, 92 percent of respondents said they backed a pay cut.
But some leading players resent the political pressure. Former England captain Wayne Rooney has criticised the government and the Premier League for placing footballers in a “no-win” situation.
“In my opinion it is now a no-win situation,” Rooney said in a newspaper column. “Whatever way you look at it, we’re easy targets.”
In the latest sign of the financial crisis as a result of the coronavirus, England manager Gareth Southgate and the Football Association’s top earners have agreed to take wage cuts of up to 30 percent.

There were 475 recorded cases of Covid-19 in the Western Cape by midday on Monday, with 26 patients in hospital and 12 in intensive care units (ICUs), Premier Alan Winde said.
On Sunday, the province recorded 464 cases with 20 people admitted to hospital, and nine in ICU.
The national Department of Health reported 1 665 cases and 11 deaths out of 56 873 tests.
The Western Cape had the second highest number of cases after Gauteng (704), according to the statistics released by the department on Sunday.

“We are also very sad to note that the Western Cape recorded its second Covid-19-related death over the weekend,” said Winde.
“We convey our sincerest condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and community during this very difficult time.”
News24 reported Kulsum Cassiem from the Bo-Kaap in Cape Town died on Saturday and was buried early on Sunday morning in accordance with Muslim traditions and Covid-19 regulations on burials.
The province screened 1 492 people over the weekend during an outreach programme and 45 swabs were taken. More community screenings are underway.
The numbers of positive cases in the Cape Town Metro has increased in Khayelitsha to four and seven in Mitchells Plain.
Community screening involves health workers going door to door to ask standard questions and depending on the answers, they will be tested at a mobile unit or the nearest health facility.
At the health facility or mobile unit a mouth swab is taken, and the person who is tested will be advised on whether to quarantine themselves while they wait for their test result which takes about two days.
If they test positive for Covid-19, the person will be contacted and the process of isolation will be explained.
If they cannot isolate because of the home situation, arrangements will be made for them to be transferred to a safe isolation facility.

Their recent close contacts will also be contacted by a tracing team.
The Western Cape government stressed it was fake news that blood or DNA would be taken, or that the swabs were contaminated to spread the virus on purpose.
“This screening is not something to be afraid of. It is part of our country’s effort to stop the spread of the virus, by making sure those who are sick are identified and cared for,” the statement said.
The Department of Social Development has also put together 50 000 grocery packs during the lockdown.
The food parcels will go to these recipients:
In this instance, persons not yet in receipt of SA Social Security Agency grants, including the elderly, child-headed houses and grant-awaiting beneficiaries will be prioritised.
Members of the public can phone 0800 220 250 for general queries, and 0860 142 142 for donation requests and offers between 07:00 and 16:00 (Monday to Friday), send a please call me to 079 769 1207, or email covid19donate@westerncape.gov.za.
The provincial education department is also putting together a plan to get food to 483 000 children who would have been given food at school.
The logistics of taking the food directly to the children without them having to break lockdown rules or have contact, and to get permits for the people who will do this, is underway. The department hopes to start this week, calling more than 1 000 principals in preparation for this.
More than 500 law enforcement officers have been deployed to help with Covid-19 efforts, and this includes providing patrols in 12-hour shifts at the site in Strandfontein where homeless people have been moved to, and working with the police and Anti-Gang Unit to combat crime, monitor gathering regulations, and illegal liquor sales.

The City of Cape said in a statement the site in Wingfield, planned for refugees living on the pavement near the Central Methodist Church in Cape Town, would be ready by Monday evening.
The City is also caught up in a dispute with the departments of home affairs and public works over the relocation of another group from the church.
Crime statistics indicate there were 13 deaths suspected to have been murders for the 14th week (30 March to 5 April), compared with 105 for the 14th week last year. The province’s Metro Police chief, Kenny Africa, reported 2 395 people have been arrested since 26 March for allegedly violating lockdown regulations.
