Sanzaar, the southern hemisphere’s rugby governing body, says it hopes that the jersey confusion which occurred in the Bulls v Highlanders game can be avoided in future.

There was chaos in first half of the encounter at Loftus Versfeld last Saturday when both teams ran out with similar-looking jerseys.
The Bulls wore their regular blue kit, while the Highlanders’ sea-green colour made it difficult to distinguish between the teams.
The Bulls, who trailed 10-5 at half-time, then changed into a yellow and white strip before running out 38-13 victors.
Greg Thomas, a spokesperson for Sanzaar, told Netwerk24 that they were happy that the issue was sorted out at half-time and that the governing body would take note of what transpired.
Sanzaar is responsible for approving teams’ jerseys and a “colour card” is made of all the matches. However, Thomas said on the colour card it looked as though there was enough of a contrast between the two jerseys.
The governing body did not indicate whose responsibility it was to intervene prior to the match.
Meanwhile, Blue Bulls Company CEO Alfons Meyer said he was surprised that Sanzaar approved the jerseys.
“You could see in the first half some of the players were struggling with it. Luckily we had the yellow jerseys on hand at Loftus,” Meyer told the Afrikaans publication.
Meyer added that the yellow and white kit was originally designed for their away match against the Waratahs on March 21.
The Bulls boss continued: “This year we didn’t want to make a home and away kit, as well as a Captain America jersey. Before the competition started we asked the Waratahs if they would consider playing in their white jerseys when we tour there but they refused.
“The plan was for the yellow jersey to be an exclusive one with only 1 000 produced, but now it looks like there won’t be a supporters’ jersey. They team will wear the (yellow and white) jersey against the Waratahs and there may only be about 30 of it (produced).”
The Bulls start their Australasian tour this weekend against the Reds in Brisbane (March 14), before facing the Waratahs (Tamworth, New South Wales, March 21), Hurricanes (Wellington, March 27) and Chiefs (Hamilton, April 4).
Bulls touring squad:

This South African has been quarantined for weeks. He does not mind spending time alone, but these days he finds himself more and more puzzled by people, their habits, and strangely their attitude towards pens. This is part two of our series of first-hand accounts.
We queue for food in three long lines every morning, noon and night. There is one line for each block of student flats. The queues snake from one small rectangular table manned by masked men the university employs to bring us food.
We were warned to keep our distance from the food delivery guys and each other, but it is still too close for my liking.
You need to have your temperature taken before you can get your food. It is one of those thermometers they use at the airports. Sometimes there is no one manning the scanner, and then you must take your own temperature.

I hope I have been doing it right.
If your temperature is too high, they scan you a few times to make sure you have a fever before they take you to the hospital.
Then, there is the pen. Everyone must sign next to their name, and to write down their temperature.
I see everyone else is relaxed about this pen. Don’t they think about how many people touch it every day? Must be hundreds.
Everyone signs their name with that pen like it’s nothing. Most days I can’t get back to my room quick enough to scrub my hands.
We haven’t been given any hand sanitiser, so I made my own. As soon as I get back to my room, I scrub my hands like a mad man. Even the holder that the food comes in.
“Yoh, bra, you’re going crazy,” one of my Moroccan friends said in a text message the other day.
Someone was taken away at breakfast the other day. I had just returned to my room to eat that same old meal when I heard it happening.
That guy could have been behind me in the queue. Did he use the pen to write down his name, I wondered?
Extra careful
I’ve been watching people. And I’ve noticed something. When people are around strangers, they are extra careful. They keep their masks* that the Chinese government issued on and keep their distance.
But when they are around friends, they are not even that phased about masks.
Where do these people come from? It’s like they think the virus looks at them and thinks: “Oh no, these people are friends, let me leave them alone.”
*An ordinary mask, such as those bought from pharmacies, won’t protect you from getting infected with Covis-19. Masks do, however, help prevent people, who are infected with the virus, from spreading it to others. Read more here.
This entry is part of a series of first-hand accounts from inside the epicentre of the new coronavirus outbreak called “Quarantine Chronicles“. Joan van Dyk compiled this first-hand account from an extensive telephonic interview with a South African in China who spoke on condition of anonymity. It was dubbed “Student from Wuhan“.
