A ruling by the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) opens up the potential for members to demand that their medical aid pays for any drug or medical care deemed necessary by a doctor to treat any disease that falls under PMB basket of care.

This is after a glaucoma patient took on Discovery Health Medical Scheme because it refused to pay for a medicated device called a Xen stent to lower eye pressure as recommended by a specialist, even though it was willing to pay twice as much as the device costs for treatment it recognises. The medical scheme denied the claim on the basis that clinical evidence around the implant was weak. It also said it was legally entitled to refuse payment for the device because it was not available in state hospitals.
The ruling could have a huge impact for cancer patients, where, in the past medical aids have refused to pay for drugs outside of their formulary. Last year, Dr Sipho Bvuma asked his medical scheme Gems, to pay for a special drug treatment called Keytruda for his stage 4 brains cancer. At first, Gems refused because the medication is not registered in South Africa as a treatment option for the specific type of cancer. It was only after Bvuma instituted court proceedings that the scheme changed its mind.

About the candidate:

Brainstorming new ideas and opportunities for client and Spitfire’s success and presenting these both internally and to clients
Updating and optimizing the components of the inbound marketing campaign for relevant client campaigns you will work on
Research subject matter, competitors, industry and target audience and present feedback to the team
Research articles and information related to the subject matter to include in web articles
Work with the Inbound team to identify and understand high-level messaging and strategy
Monitor trends in client’s industries
Be involved in keyword research for content strategies and optimize content for search both when it is published and on an ongoing basis.
Ensure customer success and be the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients.
Provide inbound best practices, with the strategic intent of delivering high-quality inbound assets
Take the lead in creating monthly performance reports to highlight progress towards goals, areas of improvement and recommendations for future programs
Analyze each clients’ marketing analytics, create reports and recommending future strategies and tactics
Conduct meetings with clients to review results and reporting
Requirements
Completed degree or qualification in strategy, communications, business or marketing
Inbound marketing and HubSpot certified through HubSpot is essential
Four to six years of experience in digital strategy and marketing
Strong project management skills and the ability to work at a fast pace under tight deadlines
Previous experience in successfully growing relationships and creating customer success
Exemplary ability to present and explain technical concepts to non-technical people

As the heat continues surrounding apartheid’s last president FW De Klerk’s statements about the system, former president Thabo Mbeki has said that De Klerk was not aware of United Nation’s declaration that apartheid was a crime against humanity.
According to IOL, Mbeki said he had interacted with De Klerk, who had said he “actually did not know” about the UN declaration.
Mbeki, who served as the second democratically elected president of South Africa, shared the details to the media in Durban on Sunday after addressing a political school of the ANC.
The publication also reported that the Mbeki had said he would be sharing the UN document with De Klerk to enlighten him on the matter.
De Klerk has come under fire following his statement that he believed apartheid was not a crime against humanity, during interviews commemorating 30 years since he unbanned liberation movements in the country, which saw the release of among others, late former president Nelson Mandela.
After EFF leader Julius Malema demanded that De Klerk be removed from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address, and labelling him an “unrepentant apologist of apartheid”, the former president’s foundation released a statement labelling the notion that apartheid was a crime against humanity “soviet agitprop” – propaganda meant to agitate.
The statement saw further backlash from the likes of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, ANC and other organisations who have called on the foundation to retract it.
There is also a planned protest for Wednesday in Cape Town against De Klerk and his foundation, News24 reported.
Convener of the #DeKlerkMustFall protest Songezo Mazizi told News24 that they were expecting a number of citizens and activists who were concerned about the foundation’s recent statement about apartheid to take part and would be handing down a memorandum calling for the foundation to apologise.
