Michelle Obama Shows Off Her Incredibly Toned Abs in New Instagram Photo
Is there anything Michelle Obama can’t do? The former first lady just showed off part of her exercise routine, and gave all of her fans some major gym inpso—and no, we're not talking about her super-toned arms this time.
On Sunday, Obama, 55, shared a photo of herself in a split-leg lunge while holding a medicine ball over her head, and proved that her hard work is paying off by giving her fans a peek at her impressive abs, by wearing a cute sports bra and leggings set.

“It doesn’t always feel good in the moment. But after the fact, I’m always glad I hit the gym,” she wrote in her caption, before asking her fans how they practiced their own #selfcaresunday. (Just FYI: Lots of commenters responded they work out for self care, exactly like Mrs. O.)
As first lady, Obama motivated Americans to get active through her “Let’s Move” campaign, a public health campaign aimed to reduce childhood obesity. But it’s clear that even though her time in the White House is over, her love for fitness and healthy living is stronger than ever. In 2017, she shared a look at the “bootcamp” workouts that she does with her close girlfriends.

“Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first,” she wrote alongside a series of photos that showed her during her workouts. “And even though I’m no longer at the White House, I've continued this tradition and wanted to share some photos.”

In 2015, Obama shared a clip from one of her workouts in honor of the #GimmeFive challenge, a campaign to get people to workout more, eat better, and live healthier lifestyles. In the clip, she first shows off her jump rope skills, starting off with some basic hops, then going into what looks like CrossFit-style double unders. She also showed herself doing some weighted exercises using a medicine ball and free weights, plus a twist on box jumps, before finishing off her workout with a bout of boxing.
Clearly, Obama's work in the gym has paid off big time. Maybe a couple's workout with Barack is up next?

News24.com | Another North West municipality placed under administration, council dissolved
Yet another North West municipality has been placed under administration.
On Thursday, North West Premier Job Mokgoro announced that the province’s executive council (exco) had dissolved the entire council of the Mamusa Municipality in Schweizer-Reineke.
It was among 15 in the province that have been placed under administration, the SABC previously reported.
Fifteen out of 22 municipalities have all been placed under administration due to a number of factors, including the mismanagement of funds, maladministration and councillors neglecting their legislative duties.
Without a council to perform its legislative duties, it is now up to the IEC to decide on a date when an election for a new council will be held in Mamusa.
Mokgoro said the exco had previously resolved to invoke section 139(1)(c) at the municipality – which has already been under administration following a section 139(1)(b) intervention – as there were no signs of improvement.
Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, said in a statement on Thursday that the municipality was accused of maladministration, financial mismanagement and councillors who neglected their legislative duties.
Ngesi said in some instances, some councillors at Mamusa allegedly dictated who should get tenders and neglected their duties with regards to service delivery.
“The municipality is unable to render services and is on the brink of collapse. It is up to the exco and premier to decide whether the current administrator remains at the helm or if there will be a new administrator. For now, there are no councillors in Mamusa,” he added.
The authority to dissolve the entire Mamusa council had been granted and agreed to by the National Council of Provinces following a request from North West Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs MEC Mothibedi Kegakilwe, Mokgoro said.
“We further received concurrence from the minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs [Nkosana Dlamini-Zuma] that we should dissolve the council of the Mamusa local municipality. As per the legal requirements, we have also informed the North West provincial legislature of the decision and the processes followed in reaching the decision.
“Therefore, legally from today, the council of the Mamusa local municipality has ceased to exist and we will be announcing the appointment of an administrator to take care of that municipality until a new council is elected,” said Mokgoro.

Health24.com | Gender reassignment surgery does bring mental health benefits
Transgender men and women who undergo gender reassignment surgery are much less likely to need mental health services later, new research suggests.
The researchers, Richard Branstrom and John Pachankis of the Yale School of Public Health, said the finding “lends support to the decision to provide gender-affirming surgeries to transgender individuals who seek them”.
Mental health care services
The conclusion is based on the tracking of more than 2 500 Swedish patients who were diagnosed with gender identity disorder at some point between 2005 and 2015.
In that timeframe, just over 70% of the patients were offered hormone treatment, while almost half (48%) underwent gender-affirming surgical treatment. Almost all of the surgical patients (97%) also underwent hormone treatment. Less than one-third opted for neither treatment.
The investigators found that those who underwent surgery were 8% less likely to reach out for mental health care services in the first year after surgery. Those services included mood and anxiety disorder treatment, antidepressant and anti-anxiety prescriptions, and/or hospitalisation following a suicide attempt.
The declining trend among post-op patients continued unabated for a decade, dipping an additional 8% each year, the findings showed. No similar benefit was linked to undergoing hormone treatment alone, however.
Not a cure-all
The findings are important given the greater overall need for mental health services in this group, compared to the general population, the researchers stressed in a news release from the American Psychiatric Association.
For example, these patients are roughly six times more likely to seek care for a mood or anxiety disorder. They are also more than three times as likely to seek prescriptions for antidepressants and/or anti-anxiety medication.
However, gender reassignment surgery did not serve as a cure-all. In fact, the study authors warned that even after surgery, transgender patients remained more in need of mental health services than their general population peers.
The findings were published online in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Sport24.co.za | Tsitsipas battles into 13th quarter-final of 2019
Basel – Stefanos Tsitsipas reached his 13th quarter-final of 2019 on Thursday when he came back to claim a 6-7 (4/7), 6-2, 6-4 win over Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Berankis at the ATP Swiss Indoors.
The Greek third seed will next face Italian fifth seed Fabio Fognini or Filip Krajinovic of Serbia for a semi-final spot.
Tsitsipas said he didn’t panic after losing the opening set to his 70th-ranked opponent in 52 minutes.
“He was giving me a hard time in the first set, it was not easy to overcome, we had a high-quality match,” said Tsitsipas, the world number seven.
“I managed to remain calm and not rush too much,” the number seven said after reaching his 13th quarter-final of 2019.
“I knew things would work out, I was able to break twice in the second set and once more in the third. I was serving well and that took some of the extra pressure away.
“Sometimes it’s tough to manage the energy. But getting angry sometimes can actually help. It can give you an extra reason to fight.”
The ATP Finals’ hopes of David Goffin stalled as the sixth seed lost to Reilly Opelka 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (7/4), 7-5, with the young American sending down 29 aces in two and a half hours.
Goffin stands provisional tenth in the race to the eight-man season wrap-up with a final points-earning chance next week at the Paris Masters.
Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem and Tsitsipas have already booked their places in the ATP Finals, leaving just two places available.
Roberto Bautista Agut, who sits one spot away from a London invitation, stayed in the chase as he defeated France’s Richard Gasquet 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and will next play Opelka.
The Spaniard claimed his 40th victory of the season as he works to become a first-time qualifier into the season showpiece in London which starts on November 10.
Results from the ATP tournament in Basel on Thursday (x denotes seeding):
2nd round
Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE x3) bt Ricardas Berankis (LTU) 6-7 (4/7), 6-2, 6-4
Reilly Opelka (USA) bt David Goffin (BEL x6) 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (7/4), 7-5
Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP x4) bt Richard Gasquet (FRA) 6-2, 4-6, 6-3
News24.com | Mbeki’s warning as DA scrambles: Don’t shatter SA’s dream of non-racialism
“I have understood from the statements made by the various leaders of the Democratic Alliance [DA], including Mr Mmusi Maimane, that the current developments within the DA have to do with the continuing challenge of racism in our country.”
So says former president Thabo Mbeki (in a typically academic fashion) who has now added his voice to commentary around the political crisis unfolding in South Africa’s second-largest political party.
READ: ‘Don’t be discouraged, my big brother’ – Malema’s message to Maimane
Mbeki made the statement after a week of major disruption and upheaval in the official opposition which saw the likes of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and, most recently, DA federal chairperson and federal leader Athol Trollip and Mmusi Maimane, respectively, bow out from the blue party.
Mmusi Maimane hugs Herman Mashaba who resigned as mayor of Johannesburg. (Felix Dlangamandla, Netwerk24)
“In this context, I wish to emphasise that, consistent with our Constitution, all our registered political formations have an absolute obligation practically to contribute to the national effort to make ours a non-racial country.
“It would be a matter of the greatest concern if it were in fact true that our country’s official opposition, the DA, is going through a leadership crisis because of a hegemonic ascendance of a racist tendency which seeks to assert policies to that end to sustain colonial and apartheid social relations.
“The millions of our people and our constitutional order will gain absolutely nothing from any negative movement in any of our political parties toward policies based on racism.
“The DA has an imperative obligation to reassure the nation, practically, unequivocally and transparently, that it is conducting and will conduct itself in terms of all its internal and public policies and programmes in a manner which truly helps to transform South Africa into a non-racial country.”
Mbeki goes on to say that “this is an obligation which binds all the political parties which serve within our legislatures, without exception”.
“Together, these must ensure that as elected representatives of the people, they faithfully discharge their solemn obligation to contribute to the building of the South Africa prescribed in our Constitution.
“Those who organise and act to frustrate the realisation of the goals detailed in our Constitution must understand that thereby they commit a criminal act against both the ordinary people in our country and the post-apartheid legal order which has sought to defend the interests of all our people without regard to race, class, gender, sexual orientation or creed.”
