The ANC on Wednesday announced their caucus executive in the Gauteng Legislature, which will be led by former Rand West city local municipality mayor, Mzi Khumalo.
Khumalo resigned as mayor in May to take up the position.
In a statement, the ANC in Gauteng said the appointments made in the new Gauteng cabinet and legislature gave a clear message that the ANC had listened to the people of the province “when they said they want effective, efficient and faster service delivery”.
“Team Gauteng brings together women and men, who among them, have a wealth of governance experience over a period of time,” the statement read.
“It is younger, better educated and it introduces renewed energy which can only augur well for the people of Gauteng who ultimately must experience the impact of this team through their daily lived experiences as quality service delivery is accelerated.”
The ANC said they are confident that the new teams assembled in the Gauteng cabinet and the ANC caucus executive in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, “is not only formidable, but possesses the necessary experience and set of skills required to vigorously pursue the agenda of growing Gauteng together”.
Also on Wednesday, Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced his new cabinet including some newcomers as well as some returning members that have been shuffled to other portfolios.

The new cabinet has been met with criticism by opposition parties including the FF Plus and the DA.
In a statement, FF Plus Gauteng caucus leader Anton Alberts said Makhura’s new cabinet does not inspire much confidence for a better future for Gauteng and its people.
DA Gauteng caucus leader Solly Msimanga said a number of the MECs appointed have a dismal track record in government.
Here is the ANC’s caucus executive to be led by Khumalo, the party’s Chief Whip.
· Lesego Makhubela: Programming and Caucus Spokesperson
· Paul Malema: Constituency
· Refiloe Kekana: Treasurer of Caucus and National Council of Provinces
· Dolly Ledwaba: Chairperson of Governance Cluster
· Petros Mabunda: Chairperson of Economy Cluster
· Gogo Ndlovana: Chairperson of Social Cluster
· Fasiha Hassan: Political Education and Development
· Kedibone Diale: Service Delivery
· Mzi Khumalo: Chief Whip
· Magagula Thoko: Deputy Chief Whip
· Ntombi Mekgwe: Speaker
· Vuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela: Deputy Speaker
· Panyaza Lesufi: Leader Government Business
ANC provincial secretary in Gauteng, Jacob Khawe, said the new caucus and cabinet will have their work cut out for them and will have to hit the ground running “to make sure that job creation, addressing the housing backlog, tackling crime, overhauling the health system, modernising education, transforming of public transport and eliminating corruption takes centre stage in this term of office.”

The ANC’s integrity commission wanted these 23 MP candidates removed from the party’s list for Parliament because of “corruption, management and other acts of misconduct”.
News24 has seen the list, that includes the party’s deputy president David Mabuza, national chairperson Gwede Mantashe, head of the ANC in the Presidency Zizi Kodwa, and controversial former ministers Bathabile Dlamini, Malusi Gigaba, Nomvula Mokonyane and Mosebenzi Zwane.
A number of the implicated members, including Mabuza, addressed the integrity commission since Friday to clear their names. The commission is yet to announce which of the members were cleared.

Mabuza has since been sworn in after objecting to taking the oath without having been cleared by the party’s committee.
In a letter addressed to the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC), which News24 has seen, integrity committee (IC) chairperson George Mashamba expressed frustration with the governing party’s commitment to integrity and the vetting of potential public representatives.
“The flagrant disregard for the resolutions of conference is very much within our domain. Openly ignoring the resolutions of conference is what is destroying our organisation, allowing it to fracture and weaken, and bringing it into disrepute, thus threatening the integrity and moral standing of the ANC,” the letter reads.
These resolutions include:
Other names include former North West premier Supra Mahumepelo, former communications minister Faith Muthambi, former house chairperson of the National Assembly Cedrick Frolick, and former postal services and telecommunications minister Siyabonga Cwele.
The IC also noted concerns that its previous recommendations had been reversed and that those who were implicated in the VBS bank saga appeared on the list for the provincial legislature in Limpopo.
“The decision of the NEC to put aside the comrades against whom there are allegation of corruption in the Werksmans Forensic Report (into VBS), should remain off the list until they are found innocent or guilty in a court of law and their matters are finalised,” Mashamba says in the letter.
“While most of these allegations are untested, they are nevertheless very serious, are the focus of public attention in the media, and are damaging the reputation and credibility of the ANC.”
The letter continues: “However, what most disturbed the IC was that not one of the comrades accused publicly of corruption, have respected the Resolution of Conferences and accounted to the IC.”
Earlier this month, objections to nominated candidates were submitted to the ANC from the IEC. The list was created with the input of members of the public and political parties.
The IC also noted that some aspects of the party’s list guidelines were not followed. It found that the list administrator of the national list committee was a candidate on the national legislator list, which it said needed to be corrected.
“The IC has also received written complaints that in at least two provinces the list guidelines have not been implemented correctly, which has serious implication for the practice of internal democracy,” Mashamba says.
This is the full list of ANC members that the IC highlighted:
1. Bongani Thomas Bongo
2. Supra Mahumapelo
3. Faith Muthambi
4. Tina Joemat-Pettersson
5. Mosebenzi Zwane
6. Beauty Dlulane
7. Gwede Mantashe

Main sponsor of The Comrades Marathon, Bonitas Medical Fund, has reiterated its support for the 25,000 runners, their families and beneficiary charities at this year’s gruelling ‘up’ race with a number of initiatives to ensure they are there from ‘start to finish’.
‘The true spirit of The Comrades is the guts, determination and teamwork it takes to finish this 89km ultra-marathon,’ says Lee Callakoppen, Principal Officer of Bonitas. ‘We believe every runner is a hero and want to honour their success. For the past decade we have been an integral part of the incredible Comrades story and continue to salute runners for the time, patience, effort and commitment they have invested to be part of this race. It is such a proudly South African event and we are thrilled to once again be on the start and finish line at this year’s race.’
The Bonitas support
The sponsorship is multifaceted and designed to help runners every step of the way – pre, during and post the race. It began with the hosting of a number of countrywide educational, motivational and inspirational seminars to assist runners make it across the finish line. The seminars were aimed specifically at the novice runner and women to get them prepared, both physically and mentally for the race. There were also roadshows held to provide tips and important information to run a safe and healthy race.
Talking of Heroes
A mini website has been created by Bonitas that provides important information on the route, nutrition, hydration, rest and much more. It also features Comrades heroes – past and present. Real people telling their Comrades story. Runners are encouraged to share their experiences online.
Bonitas has also brought on board a digital partner who will live stream the event – details and links are on the website.
Pre-race boosts
During the Comrades expo, in addition to having various BMI testing and physiotherapy at the Bonitas stand, there will also be an ‘expert advice booth’ manned by Coach Parry and other experienced runners. They will be available to answer any questions and give invaluable route tips, especially when it comes to pacing.
You can also relax and enjoy some light-hearted fun and win fabulous prices with the ‘win and spin’ activation at the exhibition.
At the start
On Sunday, June 9 in Durban the team from Bonitas will be on the start line to cheer on the runners. In addition a total of eight ‘Bonitas Buses’ led by experienced pace setters have been co-ordinated to assist runners run their best race. These buses are grouped in time categories, geared for different running styles and pace and finishing the race at different times. The ‘bus drivers’ will be appropriately dressed with signage to keep the ‘passengers’ together as they run the race – all in keeping with the 2019 slogan of ‘Together We Triumph’.
Crossing the finish line
Make sure you sign up for the Bonitas ‘find me’ app which will send a text or WA message to your family alerting them once you have crossed the finish line and providing information on a central meeting place.
Standing out from the crowd
Bonitas believes its involvement in The Comrades goes way beyond the sponsorship. ‘It’s about making a difference and giving the runners and their supporters what they want – from pre-race tips and advice through to on the day support’, says Callakoppen. ‘For us it is about living out our slogan promise and being with the runners ‘from start to finish’. We are a proudly South African company that promotes health and wellness and provides accessible quality healthcare, which makes this race an ideal fit for the brand.’
“This race is billed as the ultimate human endurance and it is no surprise when you consider some of the stats,” says Callakoppen including:
Yet this does not deter them in their quest to cross that finish line.
‘We salute the dedication and determination of these runners and are proud to be part of this amazing journey – from start to finish.’
