Job description
Triggerfish Animation is a Cape Town-based media and entertainment company, producing original character-driven stories with universal appeal. Since establishment in 1996, we have grown into Africa’s largest CG animation company, employing some of the most talented digital artists and developers. We are a major player in the development of South Africa’s thriving local industry, and our films are raising the profile of South African animation on the global stage, as evidenced by our Academy Award nomination in 2017 for the short film, “Revolting Rhymes” and the many other international awards for our feature films, short films and high-quality service work.
This position is to fulfil the responsibilities of our Finance Manager while she is away on maternity leave.
You will be responsible for all aspects of financial management including managing the day to day accounting financial reporting against the budgets. Ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and overseeing the work of the finance department. Working closely with the producer and the production team while reporting to external stakeholders.
Other KPA’s include:
- Produce and distribute monthly management reports to agreed timescales
- Managing the day-to-day accounting financial reporting against the budgets
- Review and produce financial reports detailing actual expenditure against actual forecasts to agreed timescales
- Produce required financial reports for members of the team and Partners
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements relating to financial control, financial management and accounting
- Ensure appropriate external audit arrangements are in place and manage the audit process
- Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations are produced on an accurate and timely basis to include bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors and inter-company account
- Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures and systems across all teams
- Costing productions and company budgets
- Liaising with financiers
- Managing cashflow
- Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, invoicing and other transactions
- Reporting to management and stakeholders
Requirements
- Three to five years of experience in working within a financial management role
- A four year degree in accounting/finance or professional qualification with SAICA or CIMA
- Production accounting experience in the film industry, including experience with the DTI Film Rebate submission process is advantageous
- Deep understanding of business principles and practices
- Knowledge of strategic and financial planning including activity costing, benchmarking and KPI’s
- Highly numerate and able to analyse statistical information and interpret financial data to produce reports which can be understood by non-financial colleagues

- Employee management skills
- Computer skills in Excel and Pastel (skills in Mydaes are advantageous)
