Our Client, a Higher Education Institution with International affiliations seeks a strong, dynamic individual to Head up the Employability unit.
Purpose:
The individual will be responsible for building and maintaining, through innovation and strategy, an Employability unit that’s core focus is the enhancement of student knowledge, skills and attributes that will significantly contribute to the labour market and socio-economic environment as well as increase student exposure to work related opportunities.
Core Responsibilities:
- To provide strategic leadership and guidance in line with the institutional strategy and overarching Employability goals
- To develop and implement an Employability strategy aligned to the overall Employability plan
- Collect, collate, analyse and put forward recommendations on data/insights that will provide greater insight into employability and applicable methods/ tools required to build student and graduate statistics and trends
- Team up with relevant departments to build on graduate attributes and student competency matrices
- Create employer networks and partner with top employers within the country to gain detailed understanding around graduate feedback and potential new programs within the workplace. This will further aid in developing attributes and competency frameworks.
- Conduct employer profiling to identify critical workplace skills and workplace opportunity whilst strategically linking these to the overall Employability plan
- Identify innovative and creative ways to offer employability opportunities or methods
- Lead the PR/Corporate communication strategy towards employers and stakeholders across South Africa and related SADC countries by driving the PR and the outreach initiative around the role
- Understand Employability trends and matrices related to the institution
- Set-up and/or oversee all Employability metrics within the organisation
- Analyse current and future job markets by sector in order to influence the development of relevant academic programmes within each region
Minimum Qualification:
- A relevant postgraduate qualification in Education, Psychology or a related field
- A Masters qualification is preferred
Experience & Skills:
- At least 5 years’ experience with the Higher Education sector within a similar role
- A minimum of 5 years’ management experience
- Key Account Business Development experience would be strongly advantageous
- Talent Management and acquisition for corporates and well networked within the HR industry would be advantageous
Candidate should have a clear understanding of:
- Various applicable technologies

- Graduate trends, locally and globally
Candidate should have the ability to:
- Communicate effectively through various channels
- Build relationships with different stakeholders
- Build and maintain local and global networks as well as have a proven record of established networks
- Engage in strategic planning, scheduling and management of tasks whilst maintaining effective time management
- Deliver on required activities timeously
- Present information to a diverse audience and demonstrate strong event management skills
- Work well under pressure, both collaboratively and independently
- Maintain high levels of professionalism and maintain integrity and ethics
- Develop and manage high performing teams
- Work hands on when dealing with operational facets of the role
Travel & Working Hours:
- Must be willing to travel locally and internationally
- Must be willing to work beyond the stipulated working hours when required
