Makro is searching for an Inbound Supply Chain Manager that is HUNGRY, HUMBLE, ENGAGED, AND SMART AND FOLLOWS THROUGH.
Main Purpose of the job:To strategically plan and improve the effectiveness of each channel by driving supply chain maturity across the organization, ensuring adequate funding for all required initiatives, driving logistics discipline efficiency and supporting collaboration across all divisions within the Massmart Group
Key performance areas
Financial Management
- Develop DC income budget and stretch targets
- Meet budget and stretch targets
- Negotiate and maximize efficiency earnings from vendors
- Manage DC cost to serve calculations and adjust internal recoveries accordingly
- Grow channel participation and increase value return to merchants
People Management
- Ensure Induction is completed within stipulated time frame
- Ensure that all new staff undergo orientation
- Ensure achievement of initiatives in support of store equity plan when recruiting for the department
- Signed role clarity in place for all employees
- Performance contract in place for all
- Complete regular performance evaluations
- Signed PDD’s in place for all employees
- Maintain appropriate level of discipline
- Take appropriate disciplinary action
- Conduct monthly score card and one on one discussions with all staff
- Manage staff adherence to working schedule
- Complete regular PDR’s to improve staff morale
- Ensure staff is cross –skilled to ensure continuity of all functions
- Energy level improvement
- Manage time keeping and working hours
- Effective planning for weekends and festive season trading
- Manage Team Delivery based on performance plans
- Ensure that the % is achieved for training and development plans
- Ensure that a succession plan is in place for individual departments
- Ensure Development plan is in place for all individuals
- Ensure % staff that have completed mandatory CBTs are recorded
- Ensure % staff that have completed functional CBTs are recorded
- Ensure Signed Role Clarity document is in place for each staff member
- Ensure that there is a Performance Contract for all levelled managers
Strategy
In conjunction with Supply Chain Director, develop and own the 5 year inbound supply chain plan, including:
- Replenishment
- Channel & Network
- Vendor engagement
Operations Management
- Reduce and manage time taken to agree DC allowance with vendors since first engagement (Onboarding lead time)
- Reduce time taken to onboard and explain benefits of PCC channel (Onboarding lead time)
- Increase Goods Receipt figures at Chloorkop DC to targets as stated in the channel strategy
- Maintain or increase Goods Receipt figures at Cato Ridge DC stated in the channel strategy
- Create awareness of channel strategy and empower merchants to move vendors into the correct channel
- Improving replenishment behavior maturity through order cycle maturity, system support replenishment practices and alignment with physical logistics and stores
- Optimise working capital through specific and meaningful interventions with planning community
- Improve visibility of inbound supply chain behaviours
- Ensure effectiveness of logistics functions through coordinating efforts inside and outside of distribution centers to lower cost, improve service and compliance.
- Drive maturity and visibility in supply chain activities that support and advocate upstream participation to remove unnecessary nodes and intermediaries (both imports and local)
- Increase overall JBP vendors fill rate performance
- Repeatable reports and consistent communication on vendor performance
- Manage vendor portal and EDI usage and compliance
Relationship and Partnership Development
- Actively build and manage relationships and engage with counterparts in other divisions within the Group and within the supplier and service partner base.
- Participate in the Group Supply Chain Forum
- Participate in the Makro Import Strategy
- Participate in strategic Group Supply Chain projects
- Leverage Group, supplier and service partner know-how
- The position requires trust and honesty and that entails the handling of cash and/or finances, which includes but is not limited to, the handling, administering, processing and distribution of the Company’s monetary resources such as its stock in trade or merchandise.
Minimum Academic Requirements, Professional Qualifications, and Experience:
- 4 year Degree in logistics, supply chain management or engineering
- 5 – 7 years’ experience in a similar role

- Knowledge of SAP Lumira would be advantageous
- Knowledge of organizational procedures and policies
