CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Dietetics Department focuses on building and maintaining excellent academic standards in theoretical and practical application.
The core purpose for the Laboratory Technician: Dietetics is to be responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the food laboratory and stores, assist with the planning and execution of food practical work and orders for food practical work in all modules of the division, including functions.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
|
- Keep the food laboratory and stores clean, neat and stocked according to guidelines given
- Ensure that all necessary ingredients and equipment are available for practical work and functions
- Assist Lecturers during practical work and functions
- Supervise students at practical and work integrated learning sites off campus
- Take responsibility for security, health and safety in the division
- Conduct other administrative duties as necessary
- Offer practical classes as needed
- Offer theoretical lectures as needed

REQUIREMENTS
|
|
- At least a BSc degree in Dietetics (four years)
- Be registered as a Dietitian with the HPCSA
- A minimum of three years of experience in food service and food production in a large industrial kitchen and/or educational kitchen environment (including experience in administrative duties)
- Having a valid First Aid Certificate, level 1, is an added advantage
- Competent in the use of computers (MSWord, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Outlook and the Internet)
- Valid driver’s license and own transport (a PDP will be an added advantage)
- Be able to work after hours and weekends during functions and practicals
Please note that candidates who are invited for an interview will be expected to undergo a competency-based assessment of skills. Candidates will be given sufficient time to prepare for this.
