Lecturer (Five-year contract)
Requirements:
- Candidates should provide academic leadership in the following areas:
- Teaching and Learning;
- Research and community engagement as well as to contribute towards the governance and transformation of the institution.
- The leadership contribution of the Lecturer should be evidenced at the departmental, faculty and institutional levels.
- A PhD in Philosophy or a cognate discipline that deals with the sorts of issues relevant to the AGCLE’s mandate is preferred.
- Candidates who are close to completing a PhD will be considered, if convincing evidence is provided.
- Candidates should have some teaching and research experience.
- Ability to teach in the disciplinary areas, provided that the candidate can contribute to the development of the work that is done at the AGCLE.
- No supervision history required, but preference will be given to candidates with some supervision experience at Honours and Masters Level.
Salary: R567, 661 per annum
Senior Lecturer (Permanent)
Requirements:
- The candidates must have a demonstrated track record in teaching, facilitating and helping to develop courses such as IiNtetho zoBomi: Conversations about Ethics, Meaning and Community 101 and 102 and IiNtetho zoBomi 2.
- Additionally, the Senior Lecturer will conduct research on topics related to these programmes and help with work done in schools and in other places, such as the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, where workshops on IZ related material are conducted.
- PhD in Philosophy Degree with teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Expertise in teaching and researching one or more of the following fields (expertise in cognate fields will be considered): feminism, theories of race, African philosophy, philosophical psychology, social psychology, social epistemology, behavioural economics, and existential phenomenology.
- Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees, and preferably PhD degrees required.
Salary: R679,055 per annum
