This position is responsible for planning and forecasting the merchandise range, specifically focussing on RPL core product for Homeware products in Weylandts retail branches, working on guidelines from the company Directors and within established budgets. By fully understanding business needs, planners are able to maximise profits and provide an optimum stock holding and forward cover. Keeping up to date with stock requirements and reacting to changes in demand are key elements of the role.

Main accountabilities include:

• Through a good understanding of customer demands and market/ new décor trends the planned ensures that these needs are met by keeping in stock of RPL core items
• Assisting in influencing and driving category merchandise strategy for the brand
• Aligning historical and future product performance to forecast financial plans on a weekly and monthly basis as well as for budgeting purposes annually
• Ensuring 95% in-stock availability of selected product ranges for the relevant categories on a weekly basis
• Managing stocks supply and meet various operational objective such as budgeted sales, stock turn, gross profit and ROII targets on a weekly basis and take appropriate action
• Compiling a range of options based on price, volume, market info and product tiering to create a line buy plan in conjunction with the buyer, on an on-going basis
• Management of range assortments and replenishment
• Manage the stock levels within bonded warehouse, liaising with shipping in booking the stock out
• Liaising with business intelligence to compile and produce reports to ensure visibility of the correct information [i.e. stock, margin, availability] in order to take corrective action to maintain stock levels in line with budgeted sales
• Forecasting for promotions with the category manager as well as placing of promotional orders and track sell through
• Liaising with retail personnel to ensure supply meets demand
• Monitoring the supply chain in conjunction with the fulfilment department
• Reviewing stock & sales figures then ensure that supplier orders as required
• Regular stock analysis exercises with Category Manager / Buyer and develop action plans for old stock

Skills required:

Qualifications:

• Senior certificate
• Retail business Management degree/diploma
• Proven working experience as a Merchandise Planner (3-5 years), specifically dealing with replenishment

Essential skills, behaviour and knowledge required:

• Good understanding of retail.
• Strong affiliation to systems, utilising them to increase productivity in line with the company’s merchandise strategy
• A passion for the decor retail environment and an ability to meet customer needs based on having forecasted the trend
• Ability to think strategically and commercially
• Excellent communication & presentation skills
• Negotiating skills and the ability to network and influence people;

• strong analytical skills and ability to review sales reports
• Strong affiliation to systems, utilizing them to increase productivity in line with the merchandise strategy, numeracy skills and proficiency using IT, MS Office (particularly Excel & PowerPoint) & in-house systems;
